  1. You only think you have, for your sanity kill the Disco in the most violent, slow way possible, then burn it, cover the ashes in Holy Water, bury in in consecrated ground and dance on the bloody grave. Retire to the nearest hostelry, get wasted and attempt to forget that LR ever built the 200 Tdi Disco.... Guess who is having a bad day with Discos

    Oh dear :(

Just saw your tales of woe Jeff, WTF has got into your Disco Jeff?

Mine decided it wanted a new turbo and new alternator last year, thing is, you just cannot beat a Disco for versatility, on road, off road, tow barge, run around and general hack it does all so easily, just like mine, yours suffered poor ownership for many years before you bought it, poor owners in almost every form surrounded my Disco as the bodges and cheap skate welder were it`s former demise, now rebuilt practically I only find running repairs necessary now.

On the run from taxes now though!

  2. Would it not be better to sell it there ?

Considered that option, but need it to get home, then getting it back here is just more time money and hassles. Then couple that with it only being worth 2000/2500 euro max kind of says no, as then need to replace it with something as good or better on that budget just ain't gonna happen!!!
  3. I can think of at least 3 people I`d like to feed through there fingers, no, toes first!!!

You got a hire price inc cleaning?

Seriously, nice work, was wondering about getting some plate rolled for future project, might pop over with a 6 pack an borrow yours :)

  4. I run 1.6BAR in mine, comfy ride and down to 1BAR off road, I find that much of it comes down to your tyre choices, my Cooper STT have very stiff side walls and although they're a great tyre you can easily over inflate them and end up with a very stiff ride where the shocks and springs along with suspension bushes get a hard life.

  5. Do you have all your relevant competency tickets for 360's and 180's etc. If so I'll send you some contacts for down my way. Somerset is without doubt the place to live

Well I still have the cards although they expired in 2009 :( but I hold NVQs for 360 and loading shovel and these never went out of date ;)

I spent some 10,000hrs in the seat of everything from 750kgs to 90T digger wise, try pulling +/- 10mm formation with a Komatsu PC450 bucket was 3 & 1/2 cube :o mind you, what a challenge ;)

For sure when I get back that side of the canal I will be looking to meet a lot of you, and before I leave ,

NL there are a few I wish to meet before I go!

  6. I can turn my hand at anything Daan, probably going to look for a seat back in a digger or heavy machinery, first few months won't be fussed, whatever I can find.

It's not the bureaucracy it's just the cost of living and being on a fixed salary but flexy schedule, tax bill hit the mat this morning, 585 for the first quarter, that means tax for a year is 2360 and my insurance is still 88/mnth.

Looked at jumping back over the border to Belgium where tax is 127.50/yr, but then add up a rent of 800/mnth and 300/mnth in diesel the sums just don't work out on my salary.

Importing looks interesting save for yet more extensive paperwork exercises.

Just downloaded a ton of forms to look through, the rock has one saving grace, no Google translated forms lol

  7. sorry to hear it didnt work out. at least you tried the dream, most dont have the balls to try, me included. cant help with importing the disco back but i wouldnt think it'd be too hard.

We've been over here 8yrs this year, been a hell of a journey, three separate countries and moved house a dozen times climbing the ladders, enough is enough now though. For most foreigners English is their second language, Dutch however isn't mine :( we toyed with Germany a few months back but lack of firm job security scuppered that, I turned down a job for a 4X4 outfitters as we just couldn't make the silly high rents and kings ransom called a deposit in that area, stuck in a catch22 here and the ruts only get deeper :(
  8. After a miserable two years my girlfriend wants to come home, no, not miserable with me but work, life, so called friends etc, plus the taxes are crippling on a 200Tdi Discovery :( won't bore with intricacies but it's taken it's toll enough to make such an enormous decision!

Question is, what to do about the Disco exactly? Obviously it will be the barge home but then what?

So much to arrange still but this is something I kind of need an objective view on.

  9. Oh no, this ones a keeper, it arrived as scheduled, only opened it up tonight though :(

It is big but not as big as I'd feared, phew!!!

Just hooked it onto the terminals quickly, blinded the cat and think it shone into Belgium :o

Pix to follow, but now need to work out where to mount it exactly :{ roof bar? Just propped it on the bonnet whilst scratching my head and it rather appeals being mounted 1/3 the way up just behind the panel line, god knows, probably change my mind a million times before I settle on something.

My god Dave, ya getting mellow in your old age! Been told by a (former) client that perhaps it is time I "toned down my attitude" - well that's English Nature of the Christmas card list.

I regularly get asked why can't I be more "normal"? Long and short answer #### off and annoy someone who gives a #### about your opinion, my boss finds my attitude amusing, he is tolerant but by the same token, I know the boundaries, but he knows he too is fair game when stupidity falls from his mouth, they learned the hard way to simply ask my opinion before asking stupid questions ;) clients need more diplomacy before but they too know from watching me fly off the handle that my fuse is short and my temper vile!

Back on topic, where is Perv? What's his next step?

  11. Unable to post linky for the facebookers but winches are targets right now, my cheap Warrior Apache will be fine, but we can add a gigglepin winch to the list now twin motor jobby, they cut the fence to gain access too :(

When I find more precise details I'll post up.

  12. The 6 speed manual is a Getrag MT82, never heard of or seen anything about one behind a TD5, surely it would be much easier and possibly cheaper to fit a GKN overdrive on the transfer case?

I am really struggling to see benefits of fitting an MT82 against an overdrive, the extra gear is only beneficial on the highway, ok the MT82 has a lower first gear but never heard any complaints about the R380 unless tyres over 33" were fitted(think 35" is popular for looks but never get the gearing corrected and they are worthless!!!).

    Welcome to the forum BTW.

  13. Yep, although the last years have been sketchy as some folk don't follow the rules and access to the tracks for the road books is getting harder :(

Look for the xrover.be site and lrocb.be as they are web forums with best and latest info on the Belgian national.

I would like to go back this year if it's running as missed it again :(

  14. I have fitted 3 cheapy trackers now, my only complaint is not the trackers ut mobile service providers who are greedy and deactivate sim cards after 6 monthswithout topping them up, regardless of how much money is on them! Had this happen twice now, now the tracker sends a message twice a week to tell me it's alive so the credit goes down and then just top up on time, I am now waiting for Vodafones sim only unlimited text contract offer for 4.99/month then its an affordable fit and forget system, text it for it's location.

interestingly enough, mine give longs an lats to type into a mapping programme, very handy when in the middle of the woods, text it and it tells you where you're lost lol.

    Skytag gets top vote though!
