  1. Re-check the level , those are classic symptoms of low oil . It should be running in park or neutral with the handbrake on , having first selected D and R to ensure the valve body is full

    cheers

That was my experience too, did the fluid & filter, topped it to level but forgot to run through the gears before driving into town, cost me as much for 1ltr atf in tank station as I paid for 5 at motor factors :o
  2. Does the Boomslang loom use a single feed from the battery - if so, I assume that is a single point of failure for all lamps - one broken fuse and no headlights at all ? ( as opposed to the 4 individual circuits on the existing loom )

Not necessarily an issue, but just about to do thos, and deciding whether to DIY

    Richard

I did a DIY relay upgrade, 4 fuses in mine ;)

If I get round to it there needs to be two new looms made up for the left and right lights to incorporate DRLs, front fog lamps and A bar spots.

The idea is to fit a new fuse and relay board on to the header tank bracket and run everything from there, not certain yet as my spiders web on paper confuses me more each time I look at it :(

  3. Not done it myself but can see it being easy enough to do.

Get your multi meter out and set for continuity to test and find out which wires are which, or a battery and a test lamp will do, work out which wires you need to power which circuit.

I wouldn't have bothered personally, it's far simpler to use better links and wire them accordingly.

    Something like this http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Strip-Link-Midi-Fuse-Holder-for-Striplink-Midi-fuses-Fuseholder-fits-all-/121209019230?nav=SEARCH

Mount on a piece of plate and once fitted and connected fill with vaseline to ensure they stay corrosion free.

  4. oh man, that's really pants, theft grinds my gears to the max, it makes me very angry indeed, was it your landy or another vehicle?

It was in our little 2 horse Renault master, great little van!

If I had just parked randomly in the dark I might have expected it but I chose my spot carefully, that's the bit that guts me the most, they were just so blatant about it.

Punishment for crime like this isn't anywhere near as severe as it needs be, chopping off hands is much more of a deterrent, that and public stoning in city square, but we are far too civilized for that aren't we :-(

Arjan, it is far too common, and unless we highlight the pitfalls of rest stops then unfortunate others will also fall victim!

  5. Bad luck old chap. Had the same thing in Spain a few years back - fly window on a T2 camper, happened in a tiny window of time that a pal was away from the bus - like they were watching, and they went only for hard cash.

It's such good luck though that you looked back and prevented them from getting anything. Nothing worse than that feeling of violation.

Surprised you didn't have a roll of gaffer with you, isn't that LR MO ;)

Gaffer tape and plastic bag lasted 10mins :(

Carglass in Gandia fitted a piece of perspex but it flew out within 50kms @ 90kmh :o the noise from the plastic was worse than just the turbulence from the open window!

  6. No, not gone off my rocker again(yet anyway :) ), but I am just home from a 3,800+km round trip from Weert NL to Oliva Espania and 3,000 of those kilometers with a frozen left arm and knee.

    Why?

I stopped in some services in France between Lyon and Montpellier, parked opposite a camper van full of people, under a light and just before I walked into the shops I turned to look back thinking about the horse I was transporting down and as I glanced I saw a guy standing beside my van, then heard the small front quarter window smash, ran straight for him but he jumped in his waiting car with driver and got away before I could grab him, called the very helpful Gendamerier who took a full statement along with the partial registration that I saw.

I have now come to the conclusion that the dog comes with as much as possible and the windows will get a clear tint film in order to keep the glass whole and slow them down and to save me freezing the next time!

This happened at 8:30pm on a Sunday evening, not even small hours of the morning :o

This is a bit of a word of warning thing for travellers as Gendamerie said it's the same MO where they have been seen to target foreign vehicles as they know there will be "stuff" to steal, whether it's the satnav, passports, cash or a mobile phone.

    Safe driving folks :)

  7. Well with train and ferry rules and regs changing almost weekly it kind of seemed logical ;)

David, when you get to spend any length of time in my company you will begin to realize that almost anything is possible with me

  8. In need here fellas, sorry if inappropriate mods?

Need to get the girlfriend and her dwarf pincher back to the UK ahead of me as going to finish up here at the end of the month but she needs to be back by the 10th as she wants to see her mum in hospital in London.

Tried ferries but they won't take pets with foot passengers, she won't fly and I am looking for alternative options.

Anyone here got space for a passenger and a small dog in a crate for the way back or know of another option?

    Will happily pay for services!!!

  9. Right, tomorrow I will be with family Hompes to enjoy the privileges of a lift to play on, this is to remedy the non functioning handbrake.

I picked up a set of shoes "just in case" but the more I read up, the more this points to a seized expander, bit more googling later and searching out some pics of one in bits, it struck me as a rather poor thing to start with, no rubber "O" rings on pistons or actuator and no grease point to enable some sort of maintenance, or do they so rarely fail that the design was never updated?

Interested to hear other opinions on this.
