  1. it seems like it was the front wheel bearings i repaced them 6months ago and retighted them today half a turn and it seems to have worked.does anyone one no if they should be above finger tight because mine are spanner tight now
  2. well i pulled,held allsorts cant find nothing.mot man said brakes are fine.when i brake steering is all over the place if i brake hard i have to correct the steering not nice.tried two new steering boxes

  5. my defender has always wandered all over the road when i touch the brakes its so bad now i thought i would try to mend it.i brought a polybush kit no better ,steering box ,checked the swivels bearings ect.The only thing i find left now is by the steering rod is another bar above sort off but that seems okany ideas what else i can try

  7. what you are saying makes a lot of sense ,but how can you stop a injector driping over night and what would cause this Regards Ray
  8. and it has loads of eletrics in the engine(td5) which hampers the average diy chap
  9. i have a 1992 tdi defender which i have owned from new with loads of kit and sound proofing kit,anyway i brought a td5 90 and its noisy i will say buy carefully as they all seem the same no matter what the year
  10. nope they are tight and i have no leaks i can see
  11. surely that would put the light on the dash,even my old tdi showed that problem on the dash,was quoted £60 for the plugs
  12. that is a very good point would they show signs off desiel leaking
  13. well i started it .it was lumpy as i gently reved it then it idled to its correct revs,But it still coughed out tons off white blue smelly desiel fumes for the first minute anyone no why
  14. i brought this 2005 90 at a auction 2 weeks ago it had 3parts full tank of fuel ,just gone down to fill her up and noticed a strange smell like VEG oil with perfume in it ,so i filled up with normal fuel and went to halfords and got some Millars 40plus(good stuff) and did a quick 40miles and its going great and smells like a normal 90.We will see if this cures it in the morning ,i got a feeling it will watch this space
  15. the plug light comes on for about 5 secs then stays out,it doent need much cranking,it surges like its running out off fuel then picks up then surges again
  16. if it was the glow plugs would the glow plug light come on
  17. i have no test book or namocom .i was hoping someone would no what the problem is by previous experience
  18. but it smokes like a pig and runs real lumpy for about a minute then its perfect
  19. cold start its wet and horrible here .the revs are only higher untill it gets running after about a minute ,it ticks over at about 750 when warm then when cold about 1100 for about a minuite

Hello ,i have upgraded to a td5 defender but have a problem when i start her up it starts a bit iffy smokes and surges for a about a minute then clears and runs fine.the tick over is a little higher then settes as normal after a minute.i had this problem years ago on my 200tdi but cant remember what it was but i think it was somethink to do with the pump Regards Ray
  21. i have a defender 200tdi it sit one needle off the middle on the hot side but never moves up or down realy even when im pushing its
  22. when hot mines just above half and never moves,but the needle sits over the white line when stone cold.Is the needle to far up to begin with,Sorry to go on about little things but i think over the years im becoming a perfectionist ,,odd realy because im a brickie
  23. dont bother just get some bfg.Unless you go all the way.ie 38" tyres hardened drive chain and a few grand,i have two trucks one standard and one fully sorted i drive the standard one mostly.But i have got the use of lots or cars ect which helps
