  1. Hi,

After a little info as i have one of the kits on its way and i am now worrying about my props as i didn't order them to start with but now i have my car on axle stands i am begining to think i may have a problem with mine binding/locking solid.

Anyone running Gwyn's kit shed some light?? Will standard props bind with the 2 inch lift on articultion?? or would i just need to swap the back for one of his wide yokes??

    any help would be great.

    many thanks

  2. i jujst got back from a trip round wales 200miles away from home and foundmy seal had blown in a big way when i arrived there (you get see it flowing out).

Just kept it topped up for the next 4 days of offroading/laning and made sure it was ok for trip home. As long as theres oil in there, you should be ok till you get home to fix it.

ps, its great in wales isn't it

  3. well thanks for all the info, i am now going to try some LR springs to see how it works out, dont want to buy the 100quid springs you see as i just dont like them at all, seems to be one size fits all with them, not to keen on that.

The isolators seem like a good idea so i am going to play about with spacers too me thinks.

I just got the Llamha kit on its way so just finding a nice set of springs to go with it.

Will let you knwo how i get on.

    cheers again

  4. Hey, thanks for the reply.

Yes i am going for the Llama to save soem money as i not sure how long the kit is needed for and i am not going for the hoof type retainers. I already have heavy duty clamping the spring to the chassis and qt style cones on the axle to put them back in.

I have got cranked arms on the back too and am getting both the llama shock top mounts/turrets.

Not used too much on road really, only when i have to if the run about is not useable. As for the budget i haven't got much at the mo due to holiday's etc so looking at the blue springs all about 100quid. Lift wise i want 2 inch as thats what the 90 had when i bought it but now it is tired and sits low, front spring measures at 265mm N/S 270mm O/S so really have past it.

I have seen you get either heavy duty or offroad springs, guess offroad ones are softer but not sure how suitable. I have a winch up front plus all the guards and gear in the back.

My friend is running disco 1 rear springs all round and it sits real high, can 2 in disco springs be used??

sorry for the long bit there, cheers.

What lift height do you want and what's your budget? What percentage of driving is off-road/on-road. It looks like from 1st post that hardly any is on-road.

What shocks are you going with for the Gwyn Lewis Challenge kit? If buying from it Llama 4x4, I assume Rough Country.

Are you buying the rear Gwyn Lewis Challenge spring retainers with the hook?

What else do you have fitted, cranked rear arms etc?

Can you measure your existing height between the top and bottom spring mounts. IIRC on a 90 std height is 260mm.

    Cheers

    Steve

  5. Spacers are definetly not the choice i would make, really dont like them. I have a few hundred pounds to spend at the mo but i dont have to get it all done roght away, i can leave it off the road for a bit if need be, just not sure what would be the best move to make.

    cheers for the reply

  6. Hi all,

Sorry to bring it up again but after hours of searching i am still unsure.

I have owned my D90 van back for just over a year now and when i bought it, it had a 2 inch lift kit already fitted. At the time it was quite high compared to all my frineds non lifted ones.

Now though mine seems to be the lowest of all of them, one has just put a set of new 2 inch springs on and its monsterous how high it is. My other mate has fitted disco 1 rear springs on the front and the back of his D90 and it has at least and inch more clearance than mine, although you can see they are alot softer as it leans about more and you can see where the wiehgt is sitting in the back of it too.

Now i am looking to sort mine out as i think my kits must be old and tired and has just sagged alot and is well past it. What should i look for?? I think 3 inch may be a little much really as i dont really use it on the road but i dont want to spend loads changing other bits on it to suit the 3 inch list only for pay and play days and some laning. Currently it has everything needed for a 2 inch and it works well, but i cant understand why my friends is so high on the disco springs??

Also, which springs would suit mine best? heavdy duty 2 inch springs or the offraod/extended 2 inch springs??

I am looking at +4inch shocks at the mo to go with them.

I should mention that i run 265/75/16 insa turbo's and i do have a winch up front.

please somebody help or offer advice please.

    cheers

  7. Hi all,

I finally got round to fitting my cb radio in my 90. All seems to work ok but on my drive i cant pick that much up too often, seems ok when testing it with my mate down the road.

Question is though, i have a SWR meter and i have now got it to read evenly over all 40 channels (near enough anyway). I did this by trimming a little bit off the aerial each time till it was even, but its even at 1.7 across all channels.

I know it needs to be under 3, so its safe to use but is it as good as it should be?? or is there anything i can do to improve it and get closer to 1.5???

The aerial is mounted on the back face of my roof using a PSM-1 body mount, paint has been taken off where it mounts aswell as an earth running to the chassis.

Can i improve it or is it fine as it is??

    any hlep out there?

    thanks

  8. Hi all,

Can anyone tell me weather a disco LT77 would fit into my defender 90??

I currently am running a defender lt77 but it has a bit of a crumble and i have a disco lt77 sitting here spare.

What work would i have to do to fit it??

if the casing is different then i guess the casing but do i need to go this far??

    thanks in advance

  9. Hi all.

I have just received my sythetic winch line through which i bought from a fellow member, it looks fine but i have one problem.

I thought assumed that a sythetic line or any winch line for that matter woul dhave the looped end for your hook, and the other end would have a little crimped (or similar) fixing in which you use to attach it to the winch drum. Now the line has arrived and the drum end of it is just the end of the rope, no loop or anything, is this right??

And how do i make sure it stays on my winch??

cheers, and sorry for being dim  .

  10. hi all.

I have a disco 200tdi in my 90 and at the mo the downpipe is a bodged up home made thing by the bloek who converted it before i got it. It really does look nasty, so i a thinking fo changing it.

Now i have seen the conversion pieps such as steve parkers, but i have one question really.

All the avliable downpipes seems to be made from 2 inch pipe, now is this suitable or would 2.5 inch be better???? Am i being just to fussy or are they perfect for the job??

i only ask as my exhaust system is a 2.5 inch system, mating them up shouldn't be a problem.

    cheers

  11. Hi all,

I have a disco 200tdi in my 90 and up until recently i ahve never thought about using my glowplugs, so much to that point they arent even connected. Now i have gone to see if they work etc it appears that i am not getting any power to the plugs.

I tested the cable coming into the engine bay onto the first plug but the volt meter showed nothing at all.

Anyone have any idea as to what could be wrong and where to look??

Relay maybe? but where is it. laso couldn't see a fuse slot for them.

    cheers in advance

  12. mines just my everyday car that goes to a pay and play every month or so.

Really wouldn't have thought they woudl fail so soon.

Have ordered some polybushes now to see how they go, but only fitting them as the originals wear out.

Am also going to see my supplier 2mo to see what he has to say, as they were sold to me for being very good quality and at the price i paid i would have thought so too.

    cheers

  13. Hi all,

Now i know everything about problems with polybushes but i am now having to have a re-think of them.

under 2 months ago i fitted brand new OEM bushes on my Cranked trailing arms (2 inch lift) as i know polybushes can fail where mud etc is involved so i spent about £45 on the OEM bushes but now after a month and a half the chassis mount bushes have seperated.

The metal plate each side of the rubber has pulled off it and now the axle can move forward and back a goos few mm's on both trailing arms making the drive interesting to say the least. Back end sways about now.

Now what do you all think i should do, i paid extra for OEM instead of the half the price cheap ones but now if they only last this long whats the point??

Anyone got some input? i cant decide what to do and got another pay and play coming up on the 3rd, so gotta fix it soon.

    cheers in advance

    joe

  14. Hey,

thanks for all the input. I did think of filling it with sand and heating it but this probably still wont be much cop, may just have to cut and weld loads of bits together unless i see an eblag bargain.

As for the exhaust, i want to change my 200tdi so it has a centre box but up real high then follow the chassis along up high then at the back where the chassis drops down to the rear xmember, between the chassis and body and out the rear quater.

I may have enough bits for a cut and shut but not sure if i have enough 2.5 inch tube

  15. Hi all,

i am looking for a pipe bender in which i can use to bend pipe for exhausts (2.5inch for my 200tdi) but would also be handy to bend tube for roll cages etc.

Found some on eblag and the bloke says it will bend exhaust tube fine but i was hoping for some more opinions, link below.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:X:RTQ:GB:1123

    Anyone know anything of them??

this may also come in handy for work, which is a bonus but only if it does exhaust tube.Any other advice is welcome.

    thanks

    joe
