it actually doesnt look much different,
(still no side windows!) but now has expansion bottle, washer bottle, new numberplates, new wiper blades and I had the tracking done today before the MOT
Ok there is one other thing I added today.. the all important badge.
-
No my nice green MOT certificate should be We finished putting her together and . she PASSED!
-
Today:
Left quarter and lamp wiring.
Numberplate lights
Rear bumper ends
Fit a nice big door mirror
fit Scuttle top, wipers, bonnet, sill plastics, new towball, some sanding and priming of door bottoms, and of course another test drive.
Panel alignment could do with improving in the future.
Need to find a washer bottle for it tomorrow, and fit some side windows and the rear floor, and she's nearly ready for MOT.

Thats looks ace. Made me want a bullbar for mine now.

I have used a 1978 ish tailgate with fixed plate, but I think I'll keep the swinging bit on the shelf from my 72 tailgate as they're probably getting rare .
ACtually It might be possible to engineer an internal handle on to the early tailgate , keeping the early style hardware at the sides, but I will worry about that another day.
-
Brilliant, thanks! I think it possibly is supposed to have two of these, I assume they are retained by the galvanised riveted plate along the top.
If I wanted to convert to inside handle tailgate, I presume I'd need different goalpost?
-
Ok standard 4.2 only puts out something like 123 Bhp and 194 ft lb torque (at 2000rpm)
Although I have turbo'd this I doubt its putting out much more than standard because I have not modified the fuel pump at all (Pump still thinks its normally aspirated) I will wait until I have got the thing on the road and put the EGT gauge in the dash before I start modding the pump. I would imagine 200 BHP is not unreasonable, some people have managed a lot more but with better intercooling, lots of boost and big exhaust etc.
I plan on installing a propane system, that should boost the power quite a bit!

My 72 Rangie has external tailgate handle, can't see how locking the upper tailgate makes any difference to the lower one, if you pull it quite hard it opens without the top being opened. I was wondering if I had some part missing which is supposed to stop it doing that.
-
When do we get a video of the sound?
oh go on then
Exhaust is straight through with only the standard Rangie rear (straight through) silencer. Hence the nice whistle. Air filter is not silenced either, although I do plan on changing that when I find something big enough.
I just didn't want to get out earlier, i did 4 miles in it just around the fields and stuff. Its strange having a 2wd mode on a rangie! It lights the tyres up quite easily with all that torque and not much weight at the back.

Heat stuff installed.
Front floor installed
Seat bases and drivers seat. Also some wiring, interfacing the two looms a the A pillar.
Also had to solder up about 10 holes in the radiator core. What fun
Rear floor that came with the pile of parts I started with turned out to be for a 4 door. I had also picked up another one from a chap on here and together, with a bit of cutting, they make one 2 door floor. Will install them soon.
Electrical units mounted
Doors , not the best but they'll do for now. Right bottom hinge is very knackered. Need to fix that so it closes properly.
However, time for a blast, been itching to take it for a burn.
Drives fantastic. Well happy. Makes a great noise too.
Testing the suspension. Oh yeah it has tailgates now too.
-
Brill ta. It was quite tight because the pins had corroded a bit but it came out in the end.
-
72 Rangie, how does the interior mirror come off? ta
-
-
Yikes rangies can be deceptivly rusty. They look all solid from the outside saying 'save me.. save me' then when you strip off their clothes, my goodness.
I remember a goalpost being on ebay a while back
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180633228149
so they do come up now and then
-
OOh thankyou. Does look quite likely then.

Hmm painted floor pieces
made an intake pipe , plumbed in the wastgate and the vac pipes for the brake and clutch servos. Also discovered the rad had about 10 holes in so I've been soldering the rad up.
Oh and testfitting a front wing that we had to repair the bottom edge of, but the doors need to go on before that goes on properly.
Oh and also been modding the dash cluster mount bracket to accept Nissan cluster. That needs more work.
Bought a different steering wheel for it too. I need to get some more pics. Not put floor in yet because i was thinking of getting some heat reflective stuff to put under it.
-
hole spacing wrong for that
-
Thanks. That seems to be where it goes indeed, but can't see what it does. Only two of the holes seem to line up, but maybe they have 4 holes so the same part can be used on either side of the car.
When i google that partnumber this page comes up

a-ha! Thanks! looks like you could use some too Don't look hard to make. I'm assuming they don't repro them.
-
Bought a wing mounting kit (angle bits along the top etc) but they came with a couple of these
Can't work out where they go, anyone?
My car is a 1972.
-
Found these spanners in my 72 and wondered if they were supplied in the tool kit or were just random spanners someone has bought.
-
Thanks but would still love to see a pic of this elusive bracket so I know what I'm aiming for. I already have the mudflaps installed including the brackets which reinforce them (one to bottom of spare wheel well and other to similar area other side. )
-
I can't see anything that would line up, I;m sure something is missing, anyone got a pic?
-
Just building up my car, how does the rear quarter attach behind wheel? THe front part of the quarter goes onto the plastic sill trim by the look of it, but the rear bit just near the mudflap bracket is just in mid air, is there meant to be a bracket that holds this to the mudflap bracket mount, anyone got diagram or photo? THankyou!
