  1. Am building up a 72 car from a pile of parts really and I don't have any front mudflaps, but I do have one front bracket. Can't see any holes on car for the brackets but I think that's because of previous repairs in the area where the holes would have been.

    Questions:

*Did all RR's have holes for those brackets?

*Did they always come fitted with front and rear flaps from the factory?

*Lastly, what colour should the front and rear brackets and stays be, body colour? black? Thankyou!

  2. I want to avoid any arch cutting, however I do have a set of spare (ropey) panels so I could always run with those on for a while, thats the beauty of these old cars, the removable rear quarterpanels. Love it. I don't plan on any offroading, It will however my driveway is so bad it needs a 4x4 in wet weather. Main duty for this machine will be towing a trailer on road, and I will be looking for road pattern tyres.

Disco Al.. body not hard to remove and two people can actually carry the thing (assuming yours is also a pre 85 so not including bulkhead etc)

you could even dismantle it further and remove it in sections by

    removing the roof

    removing the rear goalpost

taking the side frames off individually.

  3. Yes everything except some small bits (brake boosters, springs, brackets) is 2K paint. I am putting waxoyl between all the parts as I assemble it too, takes a bit of time and mess but I want it to last. I have also engraved most of the parts of it , even inside where you can't see it or grind it off, just incase it ever gets stolen, oh and a few RFID chips and a tracker and custom immobiliser going in too just for belt & braces.

I am rubbish at painting (no patience for all that prep) but I'm not going for concours vehicle, its strictly functional and I don't care about some runs etc. Its got to last me though, I can't see any reason why I won't still have this in 20 years time by which time it will be 60 , so like owning a 1952 car now, (ancient!)

  4. no luck at rover guy, anyone got an arm?

Also been slicing and dicing an old intercooler to get it to work on this car, had a piece of tube turned locally , I cut it and the end tank of the intercooler and made a filler piece then got it all tig welded in by another (awesome) local place.

  5. Okay just tacked my new rear crossmember (Paddocks) into my goalpost frame ....

    rt-xmembernew0.jpg

and checked it back on the bodyshell , problem!

    rt-floorgap2.jpg

The right angle profile is not right angles its slightly out, say 87/88 degrees, meaning the floorboard does not sit properly on the top of it!

    rt-floorgap.jpg

Looking from the side it looks all wrong, the top of the old one was parallel to the floor, this one isn't.

Did I just get a duff part or are they selling them all the same like that?

I see several places sell these, are they all made in the same place or are there better ones?

Anyone else had this prob and what did you do about it, did it still work ok being out like that? Thanks!
