  1. I got angry with a large flat headed screw driver lol It turns out the left hand side tab was disengaging with the key in but the right hand side the key was in fact what rovernut was saying. The release key was going under the tab forcing it up. So it has now been bent and taken off the stereo altogether. So next week I will pop up to Land Rover and get the Serial number to them so I can get the code lol.
  2. Cheers but it doesn't have the grub screws like most of the Land Rover ones. This is the radio. Barretts Land Rover in Ashford tried to get the stereo out too and they had no luck. They are looking into alternative methods of removing it without damaging the car, and I will find out on Thursday what they have found lol.
  3. Hi, I don't have the radio code for my Land Rover Discovery 2's radio, however Land Rover are willing to get the code for free for me as it isn't the original factory standard radio that came with this car. As I have the original code which doesn't work. However, in order to get the code for this stereo I need to get the serial number which means getting the radio out. I bought some radio keys to remove it and the radio still wont come out. I can get the key on the left to get resistance in the hole so you can feel the security sprung clip push down, but the right hand side flops about in the hole, but the radio will not budge out of the hole. I have even tried getting rough with it. Mainly because I got stressed. Am I doing something wrong or is there a trick to getting this thing out? Just so you know, I have the Alpine unit with Harmon Kardon speakers. Cheers.
  4. Just been out and tried it with engine on and I couldn't hear any difference between engine off or on even the readings on the swr meter came back the same as if it was off.
  5. I will try it with the engine on tomorrow. And yes it is a TD5.
  6. I have an old Midland CB radio with uk only channels and only has 40 channels on it. Next weekend if the weather is good I will get the roof lining back down and scrape the roof more.
  7. Hi, I used the factory placed hole in the roof near the rear sunroof to fit a DV27 aerial base and fitted a 1.55m coil loaded aerial and a 4 meter aerial lead that I bought at that length. I used an SWR meter and the first readings were 2..1 for channel 40 and 2.6 for channel 1. So I raised the aerial bit by but until it was adjusted to the full length it can go and got the readings down to 1.6 for channel 40 and 2.1 for channel 1. Has anyone else fitting CB Radio's and aerials to there Discovery 2's had the same or similar problems? If so did you manage to get it sorted? Cheers
  8. I have one last question to ask about CB radio's then I should be ok lol. On the back of the radio there is a switch which has 2 options, Hi or Lo. What setting should I put it on? Cheers
  9. I took the top parts of the switches off and used a fine paint brush in to what I could get to. I am going to give up on the rear windows for another few weeks now though as I have managed to score some nice cheap replacement parts for other parts of the Disco that weren't working.
  10. Update, I have finally checked F12 and F13 Fuses and they were fine, I cleaned the connections and wiggled them around as I pushed them back in and no difference.
  11. I have now nearly got everything for the CB install. My other half has bought me the SWR meter, CB Radio and I decided on a different aerial which is the 1.55 meter up to 10 mile range aerial in black. I have bought a short patch lead to connect the swr meter but need to buy a base and I need to buy the long aerial lead but not sure what length to buy.
  12. After talking to loads of people across the world and looked at all there aerials, I found the one I would like. But no one seems to be able to tell me where it can be bought from. Do you know where I can buy this aerial from? Cheers
  13. I haven't received it yet. The pictures are from the advert it was bought from.
  14. My other half has just surprised me with this CB Radio. Hope it's a good one. What a great anniversary present I don't know much about CB Radio's so I am continuing this thread in hopes that everyone who knows everything I don't will help and hopefully this will help people in the future. Now I have a working CB Radio, what is the best aerial to get? Cheers
  15. Sorry that was auto correct changing it from cb to cd. It is a cb radio that I am after.
  16. After my Discovery has passed its MOT I will be getting a CD Radio, I would like one that is not going to fall apart fast, and got a budget of about £30, I have looked through Ebay and have come across a lot of Midland CD radios in budget. I know this is purely everyones opinions and won't take what is said as gospel but I am a newby when it comes to CD Radio's. My other half is buying me one as an anniversary present lol. We always buy something useful for each other for our wedding anniversary. I look forward to your replies. And thank you for your help in advance.
  17. After I had got back and rested for a while it got too dark outside. And I forgot to read the replies again before I went fault hunting. So no, forgot to check F13 lol. Total scatter brain today for some reason and annoyingly forecast from tonight is rain, rain and more ruddy rain. So will have to wait until Friday and while it is in my mates workshop having the sump swapped over and the drag arms replaced I will try and remember to get in and have a look at the fuses.
  18. I have started with the switches 1 step at a time as I work my way through the suggestions above. Today I took the switches apart and found they were caked up with crud inside, so I blasted them clean with carb cleaner, I would have used switch cleaner but couldn't find it so used what I had as I have no spare money as it is all being poured into the Discovery's repairs and MOT which is only a few days away. Anyway cleaning the switches out didn't make the rear windows work this time and I tried bridging the connectors on the window locking switch and that didn't work either. After the MOT when the weather is dry again I will check the wiring by the airbag ECU.
  19. Why is getting oil so complicated lol Why can't all cars just have the same oil. Yes it is marked as suitable. But when it comes to the major service in 6 months time I will be getting the oil directly from a Land Rover dealer.
  20. I asked Barretts Land Rover and was tld not to use mineral or fully synthetic and that only part synthetic was ok.
  21. Thanks. I wouldn't have normally considered Halford own oil but on this occasion I had been given £50 in Halfords vouchers which is the only way I could afford some oil. Next time I will be looking at better options for oil. And it helped that the oil was buy 1 and get 1 half price.
  22. Hi, I drive a 2002 Facelift TD5 Auto Disco, What is everyones opinions on Halfords own brand oil? Cheers
