  1. I guess he really did not like sheep, what a totally twisted F
  2. True what he said ^^^, I had a standard truck, it was great, but then I decide to build my own, so I went with dual LSD KAM lockers, and a gwen lewis long travel kit. the combination is perfect.
  3. Ha, im laughing at all you haters, lighten up.
  4. Well that's just it, I am off road all the time, even when I am on what you could consider a road, it's technically a road I guess... But round here, when you go "off road", it really is, not a road or was a road about 30 year ago? Thats when you engage the central diff and prepare to get the winch out at any given moment. Anyway, my point was that sometime you may need a little help, quickly, a switch flick is quicker than a transfer lock. But back on topic I would get a locker before suspension mod's, and better tires before that. It all helps really.
  5. You are both right of course, however sometimes you lose traction just a little when climbing up steep snowy slopes, then it does help, to flick the switch engage the locker for a mo to keep things moving. But if you know its gonna be rough, of course you engage the central diff. Oh, wait it's child's play
  6. Locker, for me it's easier to engage than locking the transfer box.
  7. Here in the north of Sweden, in the back of the cab I usually have the following: 1) Short handle snow shovel 2) Mini foldable snow shovel (like the Gerber ones, but mine is old swedish military) 3) Plastic backed pick nick blanket 4) Heavy Alpaca wool blanket, picked up in Peru (it is one of the warmest things I have I think) 5) Two mini survival blankets (as mentioned above) 6) Medium Axe & sharpening stone (good for most trees) 7) Hiking gas bottle, mini stove and thermal heating cup thingy. 8) Afew of those frozen food bags, one that you just need to add water. 9) Re chargable 12v Torch 10) Old swedish military double fleece 11) Hi Vis Thermal jacket + waterproof trousers 12) 2 tone lifting strop 13) pruning saw 14) Winter gloves & rubber gloves Then in the glove box: • Hunting knife • Cash (not plastic) • Scrabble • Torch • Sweets • FirstAid kit (full of the usual stuff + some antibiotics, syringe) • Adjustable spanner / stubby philips screwdriver • More winter gloves I mean there is the usual stuff too, mobile / CB (but both are pretty useless here when you are that remote), Then there is my tool bag, socket set and tire air pump (ran off compressor with 5 gallon tank) There is other stuff, but Im off to eat some diner.
  8. Well, I was referencing the witch in the sketch, as she reminded me of a modified Landrover that was proven to be a witch via the fact that it floated in water / like a duck, because ducks float right. Either way it was a good metaphor for this whole thread. I guess you have to watch the clip. I thought it was funny, and this thread needed a little of this.
  9. Just wondering if anyone has replaced the little vent things in a defender dash for swivel, closable vents you can get for Webasto stuff? Just thought I would check, as I have two vents and was thinking of drilling out the holes, but thought to check.
  10. Ok, so I have not read all the posts one this, but it all reads a little like a witch hunt.
  11. Ok, so got the garage, he thought I was mad, but agreed it was down on power, turns out the temp sender was out, so making it look too hot. We all thought it was not getting enough fuel, so we tweaked the fuel input on the fuel injection pump, and now it feels allot better, I got it up to 65mph... ( dare not go any faster on a slushy / frozen / ice road ). Then the heater, turns out the heated box flap was not full switching over to let the hot air in, the cable was a little bent so it looked open, but not.
  12. Yep, I replaced the clutch slave, I can remember it being tough to get back on, it felt it was engaging the clutch a little. Just drived through a field of snow ( my drive until I get the tractor to clear it ), did not feel like it slipped. checked it too by holding the foot on the brake, acrelator, then letting the clutch out (it stalled, the brake work then) The fuel tank has a 300 tdi pick up thing, don't know if this is a pre-filter, gonna check the fuel pressure at the garage if I can, or the above.
  13. The red top looks way easier than a lift pump to install, and that filter regulator looks nice too. My filter regulator has a little pump on the top of it so I can pull the fuel through, so I guess I should use a little hand pump instead. What to do with the mechanical lift pump then, or which one to fit if I am gonna replace it anyway?
  14. Yeah, paddocks sell them, apparently a 300 tdi one will fit??? But it does feel like it's getting slower and slower, so far on this new engine, after about 7000 miles, the power steering pump has gone, the water pump has gone, and the thermostat... I will order a lift pump too, but maybe an electric one might be better just before the fuel filter, which one did you fit?
  15. Yeah, I thought about the throttle first as it seamed like one of the first things to check. Will check this lot on Thursday when it's at a garage getting a compression test done. On a note, hole many tabs are there on a head gasket for a 2.8tgv, when I called paddocks they asked that and I was not sure, I know you can count them, but I am not sure what they mean by tabs? I am assuming that it has three tabs, as it has three bolts to the right of the rocker cover, and three notches, is this right? Oh, transfer oil is fine, it was replaced when I did the new clutch.
  16. Winter is here, and I "think" I am ready... Got my studs on, the only way to go on the ice roads round here. Last year, some towing action
  17. Hey all, sorry for not getting back sooner, we had a snow storm here which too out our internet since last night. Today fitted a new thermostat, (as it has been overheating slightly, not it's better, but it still is slightly over, but not as much as before) and then adjusted the clutch to get the correct distance from the floor right, I can remember when fitting the clutch slave cylinder that it was pretty tough to put onto the pushrod, it felt like it was pushing the clutch a little. But then the clutch pedal was sitting at about 120mm off the floor as opposed from the 140mm it should be. But maybe the slave cylinder is not the right one for a R380 gearbox, it feels fine now) It's a 2.8 TGV, I am pretty sure that the fuel filter is ok, it is new, and new oil filter, will check all the pipe work tomorrow, I am pretty sure this is good though, think the lift pump is good, but not sure how to test it. • Is the boost diaphragm ok and the boost pipe to it ? and does the plunger on the pump side of the dia. move ok ? I'm assuming Tdi Not sure, not sure how to test this either. The tickover is good, if I rev it at tickover then the revs go high. Pretty sure the clutch is not slipping though. It just feels down on power, another symptom is the oil pressure, at idle is sits as about 20psi, at 4th gear, foot flat on the floor, managing to pull at 50mph, it's about 50psi ish.
  18. Changed my clutch, we have gears again. Now it feels like it did before, lacking power, if I got my foot down flat, It feels like im pulling a heavy weight. Now the old clutch did wear out quite quickly, but could it still slip even though it's all new? Or would I get the same symptoms with a slightly blown head gasket, as I think this could be it?
  19. All set here, after just changing me clutch in the snow I am looking forward to driving the beast. Got studs in me tires and snowtiers
  20. Try these guys - http://www.engelbert-strauss.co.uk Well I have there HiVis jacket, and it's really snug even at -11 stuck under a landy 9I know this because I just changed my clutch outside in the snow, don't have a garage yet)
  21. I think it's just Sweden being rubbish
  22. Hej Thanks for the info, I kinda guessed this. I think alos it's just Sweden being Swedish, with the parts. It's amazing anything even gets done? Well, I have email s••part guy, mainly to see what might happen with him.
  23. Where is a good spot to get them from, at the moment I get them from the UK because it's cheaper including postage. The other day I was quoted 4,000 SEK (about 400 quid) for a clutch.... I was still laughing when I walked out having told the guy I just got one for £100 including vat, postage, release bearing, arm, and clutch. Anyway, who knows of a good place in Sweden for specific LR parts?
