  1. I am so glad that there are other people who share my sceptisism of this whole argument. Add to the facts above that the whole thing is based on a computer model generated by people whos livlihoods depend on the general populace believing what they are saying and 150 years worth of data and you are close to the truth about this whole scam. Doesn't detract from the fact that 30p a litre for bio fuel is attractive... Matt
  2. People are too lethargic. Maybe it has something to do with Tofu? Matt
  3. I sent the site in question a polite e-mail enquiring about their logic and got a suprisingly well balanced reply: Matt - it is not an issue of snobbery and no, we wouldn't rather high capacity engines continued to use fossil fuels. We do have a very clear green agenda which involves reducing CO2 emissions and the amount of waste that goes into landfill as our voluntary efforts to limit Global Warming. The majority of 4x4's on the roads are not what we term 'working vehicles' ie their increased size, fuel consumption and pulling power are not essential to the driver to do a job of work that more conventional, smaller engined vehicles can do just as well and have done since our parents days. We do suppply biodiesel to 5 landrovers that are an esential tool to the owners (farrier, forestry workers, dry stone waller, small holder) but if 4x4 owners want to help the environment then, rather than use our limited supply of biodiesel to power a car used for school runs or shopping, they would be better getting a smaller engined vehicle. We also are unashamed in the view that many SUV and 4x4 owners drive these heavy, more dangerous vehicles as a status symbol and demonstrate a 'stuff you' attitude to everyone else. I hope that satisfies your interest. Containing Climate Change is something we feel very passionate about and that it should be a universal challenge - hence selfish and unnecessary vehicle users of all kinds are a hindrence to the work that we and many others all over the world are involved in. Leon I still think it is a bit of a cheek telling people what they can or can't drive but the guy is entitled to an opinion. Matt
  4. Fair comment - I was very angry though, that is a toned down version of how I feel about the two faced nature of these people. Matt B
  5. I was looking at Bio Diesel as a viable alternative to regular stuff, not from a "green - emissions" perspective as much as an "if fossil fuel runs out what do I do" and if I am honest a "wow 30p a litre" perspective and I came across a company that was selling plants to convert chip fat. I was pretty impressed until I started to follow links on the site, the first one I came across was totally anti 4x4 which I don't get. If these people are so concerned with the planet surely they should welcome any large engined diesel motor with open arms? Surely a Landy burning Bio fuel is better than one burning fossil fuels? Let's face it I am NOT going to give up my Landy until they wrench its keys from my cold dead hand and the level of bias we face does nothing but strengthen my resolution. I can only put it down to reverse snobbery / jelousy. What a horrible, ignorant society we live in. I was seriously considering a plant but they can shove it up their a*s*s - one less green convert I think. Matt
  6. Thanks for that I was so tempted to melt it off using a torch - it had me that wound up. Matt
  7. Life in general some would say... Anybody got an answer before I hit the bloomin' thing with a hammer? Matt B
  8. Hello All The starter on my Disco has been getting progresively worse, it just gets into a particular frame of mind and all it does is whine... Due to festive pressures on the wallet I decided to swap it out with the one from my RRC as they seem to be identical. Having spent a pleasant 5 minutes removing the one from the classic I decided that it was going to be a doddle and started on the disco - four hours later I still haven't got past the b*&^%y heatshield. Two questions: 1) Am I wasting my time - although the motors seem the same I can't tell if the electrical connections are similar due to the heatshield (see above) 2) How do I get the heatshield off without wanting to crush the car? Matt B
  9. Nice one! I shall give that a blast. Thanks Matt
  10. Thanks for that - I tried searching CB+radio but didn't find that post. Nobody seems to be having problems with ground plane which is what I was really worried about. Matt
  11. Breaker breaker, 10-4 good buddy, you got yer ears on, come back. Ok got that out of my system... I got hold of my CB, found a gutter mount and pole, got myself and SWR meter and patch cable and stuck it all together with my Disco - that's where the trouble started. I got an SWR reading of a high 3 so thought I'd trim my pole a bit - I now have an SWR of 10 so I've managed to knacker it. This means I need to get a new antenna. I had a shufty and apparently the bigger your pole the more popular you are with the ladies, no hang on wrong forum, the better transmission / reception you are likely to get. That being the case I want to get me a big pole, but I don't want to bung it on the gutter due to having it ripped off by rogue trees etc. I was wondering about mounting it on the rear bumper ot the rear door (spare wheel mount or such). What have you guys done? Matt
  12. Thanks chaps - that was the problem! Matt
  13. No actually I was standing by the car with the door open! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a blast whan I get home Matt
  14. The other day I noticed that the wiper on the rear of my Disco had stopped working. It was working fine and then just wasn't. I checked the fuse which is fine, I then removed the connections and checked for a voltage at the motor which there appears to be (on the small two wired plug). I stripped the mechanism and checked the brushes on the motor - all of which looked good. The only point to note was that there was water in the gear housing and the grease had turned to gunk - the contacts under the gear were covered in mucky wet grease. I cleaned them up and put it all back together and then tested the motor which runs fine. I put it back on the car but it still doesn't work although it did run for a second or so where I guess it was realigning itself. My question - is there a relay or ecu which might be fritzed? If so where is it? Matt
  15. Hello all I was just wondering with the nanny state banning anything harder than an undercooked marshmallow from the front of our cars where we stand on tubular / winch bumpers. The legislation seems quite clear suggesting that adding any FPS mus meet strict EU guidlines, failure to comply would result in a fine and upto 12 months in prison. Do the winch bumpers ets that are readily available meet this criteria and of more interest to me where do you stand if you fabricate your own? Matt B
  16. Yes you are right, it was a moment of madness... Matt B
  17. Following on from this, what about 2" lift springs and spacers? Do you need to get +4" shocks then? Matt
  18. That opens the possibilities up, I'm going to pop over to my local scrappy at the w'end to have a look see what he's breaking. Thanks guys - I owe you a pint. Matt
  19. I have relocated the ECU to the dash so that it isn't so prone to water. Thanks for the advice, I'm off to the local scrappy. Matt
  20. Thanks for that, the tank is an alloy race article so I can't use an in tank pump but I can easily mount the external pump below the tank. The only real reason I want to ditch EFi is simplicity, I mistrust electricals as they don't like water and EMP (just in case I ever need to survive WW3 ) Can you recommend a Scooby pump that's up to the job then? Matt
  21. Hi helpful people, I was hoping that you might continue to allow me to harvest your extensive knowledge... I need to buy an electric fuel pump as I have lost the underslung tank as it was in the way of my 400mm chop . I had a shufty on e-bay and can get this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-90-110-DE...VQQcmdZViewItem It states that it is for carbs which will be the case once my ECU has packed up but for the time being I'll be running injection, the motor is a 3.5 V8. Will that be man enough for the injection system? Thanks in advance Matt
  22. Thanks very much for all the advice, it is a really nice aspect of this site and the sport generally that people are so willing to help. Matt B
