  1. Well obviously that is what I meant Mark as the vast majority of this thread is a discussion about MSA events and so doesn't apply to anything run outside of MSA....

There's been a lot of confusion and mis-understaning on this issue so I was just making the point as a lot of people may not appreciate that there are events outside the MSA when people use the words ANY and ALL.

True, although I have no idea who is running challenges outside the MSA this year.

4x4 Adventures for one. Be interesting to see who else might choose to organise events outside of the MSA umbrella especially in the light of this farce over implmenting this license regulation change.

  2. 663 or 664 is about the biggest single battery you can fit in a 90/110 seatbox. These have are commonly fitted to small trucks/plant and have plenty of umph. 110-115Ahr and 750-1000 CCA depending on spec. I paid about £65 from my local battery specialist when I last bought one, for my Iveco. But be careful some are slightly bigger than others and cover the terminals, the rear one will be close to the lid.

  3. however I'm wandering about security.

    :hysterical:

    It's a land rover.

Does it have the little windows either side of the rear door? They are more of a worry.

From a security perspective the side windows will make little difference, unless you sort out the other windows and doors.

If you're worried about breaking them, than that's different matter. How "extreme" are you planning on going? I have generally found alpine lights to be more vulnerable than side windows.

  4. the width of the drum would need to be narrower to give it room to move hence the capacity of the drum reduced possible to a point that not enought rope can be put on to make it usable.

If you are going to end up with much reduced rope capacity, just put the shorter rope on the original unmodified winch as you might not have enough to worry about bunching anyway.

  5. What I am saying is: try and get springs matched to roughly an average vehicle weight. If you can completely off-load your vehicle when not on a trip, and you are running springs for a vehicle carrying a half ton more, your ride will be awful.

If your weight differences are that big keep a set of standard rear springs for when you are not on 'expedition'. Only take 1/2 hour to swap.

  6. The hike tents we use with the scouts are 'Vaude's they are great :) very quick to put up.

Another vote for them, if they are the models with the shock cording that clips around the poles to save the bother of threading them through then they are very quick and easy to put up.

  7. Note there are at least two different sizes of 'flat' washer, and hence I guess spacer too.

FRC8002 has a slightly smaller hole than FTC3179. Obviously the radius is the same as the bearing is the same, so it is just the position of the flat. FRC8002 will not fit on a stub axle designed for FTC3179. FTC3179 will fit on a stub axle designed for FRC8002, but may not lock as effectivly due to small amount of rotational play.
