  1. Hey All, Does anyone know where I can buy a set of these: I've been looking for a while with no luck, any advice welcome, Thanks, Gav
  2. Thanks everyone for the replies and advice. I've decided to go with a pair of these: http://shop.audioimages.co.uk/kenwood-kfc-x172-17cm-2way-high-performance-flush-mount-speaker-system-p-1361.html They look all right and a friend of mine has a similar pair in his car, which has a completely different acoustic properties to a defender, but sound good. Eightpot, thanks for the info on the enclosures, not something I'd thought much about I'll see what I can concoct when the time comes to fit them. Thanks again to all, Gavin
  3. Hey All, This has no doubt been covered before but a search revealed nothing meaningful so here goes. I'm looking at installing a stereo into my Land Rover (110 Hardtop) as it currently doesn't have one. I'm going to use the head unit from an old car, partly because it works well and I like it but I also have all the wiring adapters to make the steering controls that I salvaged from the old car to work. Anyway I'm looking to see what brand of speakers people prefer, I'm looking for something around the 5 1/4" - 6" size and tweeters. All suggestions welcome, Thanks, Gavin
  4. I've used Jizer and Gunk before and from personal experience I get on better find Gunk to work better.
  5. So would I be right in thinking that my chassis number of WA156562 would fall into the category of 'AA242000 to 1A622423'? Thanks
  6. Hey All, I'm looking to replace my rear door and have become a little confused by chassis numbers. Paddocks have two (different?) rear doors, stating that one for up to chassis AA270226 and the other from chassis AA242000 to 1A622423. This seems to have a degree of overlap and I'm not aware of any difference in the rear door over the years and was wondering if I need to be concerned about getting the right version for my Land Rover. I've always assumed that the numbering system was AAxxxxxx, ABxxxxxx ---> ZZxxxxxx so where does 1Axxxxxx come into it? If it helps my chassis number is WA156562. Thanks, Gavin
  7. What's critical that's within 30cms?
  8. Hey All, I'm going to be swapping my 300Tdi's Header tank and Radiator tomorrow as the header tank leaks and the rad not got much life left in it so I thought I'd to them at the same time. While doing these two jobs I'm also going to replace the vicious coupling and was just wondering if any of you have and suggestions of how best to do this or of anything in particular to be aware of/not to do. Any advice/suggestions welcome, Thanks in advanced, Gavin
  9. Problem sorted. One of the connectors to resistor on the heater box was loose and weak. Also when looking I found the bung on the lower part of the air intake to be filled with crud and the fan was sucking at the water that had built up. Anyway all in all, problem found, fixed and sorted! Thanks for the info on the plugs behind the fuse box.
  10. Hey All, Does anyone know where I can buy a winch tray as in the photo below? I've tried a few places but without success. Thanks, Gavin
  11. I'll get the tester out on the clear one, not sure if it'll be fag light outlet as there's on in the centre dash already.
  12. Hey All, My recently acquired 1998 110 300Tdi Hard Top's heater blower stop working the other day. I've check the fuse (fuse 5) and that tests OK. In removing the fuse holder to further check the wiring I found these three plugs (Blue, Yellow and clear), each with nothing attached to them, anyone any ideas as to what they mite be for? Also anyone any ideas as to why my blower has stopped / suggestions of other things to check? Thanks in advanced, Gavin
  13. Is that safe? Not to mention looks dreadful.
  14. Does any one on here have any preference as to the type of anti-freeze, do you guys like the Green stuff of the Bright Orange stuff? I can't remember there names let alone spell either of them! Edit: A quick Google reminds me ethylene glycol and methanol. I've been using ethylene glycol (the bright orange one I believe) for while on my 200Tdi, would the same be OK for my, in much nicer condition and want-to-be more looked after, 300Tdi?
  15. Yes that's exactly how I fitted mine, oddly enough it was one of those 5 minuet jobs that actually took 5 minuets. So long as you do it carefully and don't actually remove the casing. I started my measuring the gap from the front half to the back half, then removed all three bolt that hold it together, then with front half wedged on coffee table (a vice would be better) I gently nudged the back half round 1/3 of a turn. Then when replacing the three bolts I did then hand tight then tightened then up so that the gap was the same as it was before I started. Fitted to engine works a treat, has been on over 6 months and no problems. Hope that helps.
  16. It's Ex-Severn Trent Water Board. Though your right the ladder racks is very BT, I see them every day in the yard at work. There's the chance (I not seen the service print out yet) that it may have been serviced by a BT Fleet garage, they tend to do a lot of the utility companies, eon, central networks, metering services and the local police and even the AA are all done at the yard where I'm based.
  17. Update: Well I took a second look at the 110 I had my eye on, took it for a drive and liked it even more. There are a few niggles I missed, but nothing that can't be sorted easily. Anyway I've agreed a price, have paid a deposit and shall be collecting it later this week after it's been MOT'd. Here it is as is at the moment, I'll update these photos as and when I make changes. Thanks for the advice and comments, Gavin
  18. Thanks for the advice so far. I had a look at all three and have ruled out the cheaper two as these seem to have had a harder life than the 6k one. I'm going back again tomorrow (Sunday) with a couple of friends to help me decide (plus they know more than me). I know several people with Ex-Utility Land Rovers and haven't had any major problems other than can be expected with 10 year old Land Rovers. I like the idea that they have at least been maintained by professional mechanics from new and normally on or around the service intervals. Unless the employees that use these are radically different to the rest of the company, having worked for BT for nearly 3 years and having seen the way most of the company vans are driven, I'd never touch an Ex-BT vehicle, but if you've had a good experience they can't be too bad! Thanks again for the advice, I'll update with how things go after tomorrow. Gavin
  19. Hey All, I'm looking at buying another Land Rover to replace to one I currently own and have found this my only concern is doesn't this seem a little expensive, even given its low mileage? There's a couple of other from the same dealer that have also taken my interest Clicky 1 Clicky 2 I'm fairly sure I'll end up getting one of the three. I know the information and pictures are limited on the links given but I'm just looking for a range of second opinions. Any comments welcome, Thanks, Gavin
  20. I like that idea! Very neat, I imagine quite tough and strong and like most of the best ideas - It's simple!
  21. Hey All, Not sure if this has been covered before, didn't find much when I searched for it. As you all know it is illegal to use a hand held one while driving, but what about dash fitted (or in some other way fitted) CB Radios, these are not really a hand held device, except the mic. Up untill now I was under the impression that they were legal, but having read the front page of this I'm not sure http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2003/20032695.htm Any one got a better understanding of the way in which that is worded? Thanks, Gav
  22. Here: http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1989/Uksi_19891796_en_1.htm It a big bugar to read all in one go, but if you find the relevant section you can usually find the information you want.
  23. I can only assume that's the one I have, the conversion was done by the previous owner. Would a 200Tdi filter allow for improved air flow to the engine?
  24. Thanks western. Look like I've a few differences in my engine bay, my air filter housing mounted on the chassis. I'll get measuring then get some silicone and stainless pipe work sorted
