  2. Martin, Thanks for the answer. I thougth that the oil were not the correct one. Now Trying to get a decent garage that knows something about LR gearboxes here in Chile to repair it. Cheers!
  3. Hi there!!! Usually I dont post here but... A friend of mine with a TD5 has a problem with the gearbox. The problem started with a buzzing that were more strong in the 1st, 2nd and 5th gears. Thinking in the fluid that was change not long ago, he check the levels but all appears normal. Finally the gearbox were dead and look like something has been loose inside. He can move the gearstick to each gear and the clutch appears to work OK, but the car continue in neutral position. They also check the transfer but its appear to working fine. He comment me that the gearbox oil appear to be burned and some oil were spill off from the gearbox. According to the dealer, the problem is not common and require to replace all the gearbox. Anybody with a similar experience? Possible causes and solutions? Thanks in advance Eduardo
  4. here is my wish list - Keep the shape and the main specs (angles, tow capacity, etc) - Solve the leaking problems (dust - water) - Improvement in the Puma motor to be more reliable or try with other motor (6th gear is fantastic) - Reduce the steering radius - Increase the response to acceleration - More space in the cab to accomodate big drivers. - Lower 2nd row to be at the heigh of the window - Airbags - More Rolling protection (cage or other measure) Cheers
  5. well Here is mine (quite standard) Just installed 1 month ago Cheers
  6. Well, 25,000 miles in 2008 in the 110 SW Puma Taxes 460 Pounds Insurance 500 Pounds (Company colective insurance) Here insurance don't change with the mileage. It is calculated with the car value Expecting to do the same in 2009 Cheers!

  8. Mine, Not too much changes in the Defender after one year and almost 40,000 km. Just the roof rack I think the major changes has been in the family . They love the Defender and give us the possibility to go almost anywere without destroy the car. In December in its maiden trip with only 300 km in the odometer After 37.000 km, several trips and happy days
  9. An engineering empiric law said that you must multiply all the expected times to complete a work by PI. So if somebody said that took 15 minutes you must multiply this number by 3.14 = 47 minutes. Others more pesimist said that you also must use the following measure unit (seconds should be minutes, minutes should be hours). That means that our 15 minutes are equal to 47 hours instead of minutes. Believe me, in most cases the second works better.
  10. Bienvenido Jano Saludos desde el otro lado de la Cordillera Eduardo
  11. Also agree with your comment Lara, Business are business and if you or I made a bad deal we must to paid for it without any help from the government (In theory should work in this sense). If the govermnemt put money must be profitable for UK. I don't know the Tata's finnacial situation but should not be quite well, and probably, the cost for the UK taxpayers to leave LR in the bankrupcy (paying unemployement insurances, lost of other business tied to LR, etc), will be higher than give some money to LR to run the business and recover this money in the future. But responsabilities should be prosecuted. Regards
  12. Hi there, Sorry to said that, but the market conditions between the day were Tata aquires LR and today has been changed dramatically and almost all of the companies (Tata included) are run out of credit due the financial crisis. Given that, a bailout will be possible. The 10s millions of pounds only gives LR more time to run without government help but Im afraid that is not too much money. Current problems are in the short term cashflow (2009) so an extra cash should be injected by Tata or by the government. Tata is not a charity institution and if the bailout money are less expensive than its own, they will go for it if the conditions are acceptable. I saw an interwiev to Bob Grace (intl. Operations Director) in a local newspaper during his visit to Chile (in spanish I regret). He said that the european automovile industry rescue it is a must to keep the GDP in a good shape. But anyway Im confident that finally LR will be OK. If somebody like to read the article , there it is http://www.mer.cl/MODULOS/CATALOGO/PAGINAS...EB009BB1912.HTM Cheers
  13. Well, After 1 year and almost 40.000 km and despite the problems that I had (oil sump; some oil leaks in the hand brake and the transfer, a crack in the rear door, brake vacuum pump and other "minor faults") I feel quite happy with our Puma. I will not change it for other car (well maybe a new 2009 Defender could be) This is our first LR, so I cannot compare with a TD5 or TDI. As I said some time ago, is not so comfortable like por old minivan and is not as fast as othe car, but is a good compromise (at least for us) between a car to be used everyday in the city and the rough car to be go anywere. By the way, with 4 childrens the new seat distribution is pretty good. I didnt seen any 4x4 were the 3rd row can accomodate 2 teenagers in good conditions (at least here). Regards
