  1. Hi there, Just to inform my departure on wednesday from Santiago - Chile to Puerto Madryn in Argentina (1900 km) to assist to a LR meeting organized by the Argentinean and Patagonian LR club. Not so big meeting (40 LRs), but will be a good experience for us and our kids. We will cross the Andes mountain and drove through the argentinean pampa to reach the place. Puerto Madryn is located in the Argentinean Patagonia and is famous for be a whales sanctuary. I will be there one week. I promise some photos of the trip and the meeting Cheers!
  2. Ross, My is RHD and the sump was hitting also Cheers!
  3. David, Well, you always can handcuff somebody in the EX Models I'm a spanish speaker and sometimes my english vocabulary are not so good (also my grammar as well) , I hope that you can forgive me for some funny translations like this one. (at least you laugh ) "exterior door handle" will be a better word for that part? Regards
  4. Well A backup list of all the failures that I had from the beginning. (Dec 07 until now with 30.000 km) Some of them minors but I didn't expected this kind of small problems in a brand new car. 1) Copilot window falls in to the door 2) Oil sump damaged 3) Oil leak from the hand brake drum 4) Brake Vacuum pump broken 5) Driver window completely loose 6) Stopper of the copilot door doesnt work 7) Stopper of the rear door doesnt work 8) Crack in the rear door 9) Several bolts loosen or missing in the body 10) handbrake sensor loose 11) Water leakage in to the copilot side 12) faulty Light switch of the rear door 13) Copilot handcuff loose 14) MPG down from 23.5 to 20 (dealers use a motor oil that not fulfill the specs) 15) Draught excluders (it that the word?) loose 16) Felt strip in the rear windows falling of 17) 3rd brake ligth burned And counting... Regards
  5. Silvio, Not so much to said. Our dealer (regretably far away from UK) said us that if a vehicle will have this problem they will proceed according the SSM but they believe that will affect only some cars . Until now, As far as I know, at least in Chile, no one have presented the problem. Will be very good to know how many Pumas around the world have this problem already, to have an idea of how spread it is. Regards
  6. JST I have a pic of the new one and the old one with the scratch. let me found it and I will post it. Regards There is the new one: The old one (just the damaged area, sorry ) Regards
  7. I just check the GTR few minutes ago and doesnt appears as a recall, still is a Service Action Bulletin ...
  8. I was not aware of this site. Pretty good one Thanks.
  9. David I think that you should see another more professional dealer. Here, at the end of the world we first test one several times before buy it! Have a new one or rebuilt one have their pros an cons. One pro over the used one is the depreciation as Fridgefreezer said The con of the used one will be "hidden" problems that you can found in a used vehicle in spacial if you don't know the car's story On the other hand, PUMA is more "driveable" in the road than 300TDI. You can go up to 120 km/hr without any problem and with not so much noise (you can talk inside). Also the A/C has been upgraded and the seats are more confortable. But take in account that is a new model and some problems could arise (until now, oil sump, and other design problems). When I bougth my 110SW, I tried the 300TDI and a PUMA and finally we decide for PUMA (more confortable and more easy to drive in the road) Regards
  10. I was looking without success through Google if the problem also were found in other Duratorq engines. So, should be a part of the modificatios made by LR My thougth is that will be treated similar to the oil sump problem (change as service go). By the way, I just sent the information to my dealer contact (in the warranty dept) to request more information. Regards
  11. That's rigth. In general for each vehicle that I bougth i suscribe in order to have acces to the workshop manual. The service message was retrieved from there. Regards
  12. DonĀ“t know, Mine is 7A7499352 and was manufactured in Oct 07 . Regards
  13. In the Land Rover GTR appears te following service bulletin issued some weeks ago: Somebody with this trouble? Regards Title: 2.4 Puma Engine Knock Noise. Type: LD - Defender - All Years - Special Service Messages - Engine Name / Part No: SSM38792 Info Type: Service Bulletins Version No: 1 Date Uploaded: 21 Jul 2008 Models: LD - Defender Title: 2.4 Puma Engine Knock Noise. Last Modified: 21-JUL-2008 09:44 Category: Engine Symptom: 497000 Engine Noise Content Issue: Heavy audible knocking heard on start up. Cause: On start up oil pressures can cause the piston cooling jets, (PCJ), to latch into a zero flow condition. Due to hysteresis effect in design the jets do not unlatch until the engine is warm and the oil pressures lower again. During this time with no pressurized oil jet flow to the lower pistons / cylinder bores, overheat and scuff conditions / damage can occur. Action: Replace the engine assy but ensure only engines post serial # ELD00080707063602 are used. This condition will not occur on vehicles post assured Vin# 9A767162. Engines post the info above are fitted with modified PCJ internal springs and this issue is now closed.
  14. Strange, Must be somethig particular in your motor. The part that you mentioned is the transmission extension housing (sorry if the translation is not good, but I have the workshop manual in Spanish) that holds the extension shaft. By the way, I just check the GTR and appeared (Jul, 21st) a Special Service Message for the Puma motor regarding a heavy noise during the start in the motor. Here it is: Models LD - Defender Title 2.4 Puma Engine Knock Noise. Last Modified 21-JUL-2008 09:44 Category Engine Symptom 497000 Engine Noise Content Issue: Heavy audible knocking heard on start up. 17. Here is mine in a family raid trough an abandoned mountain train railway in Chile (3 days) made last week Regards!
  18. After 12,000 mi. and 2 oil changes (6,200 mi and 9,300 mi) not noticeable oil use. Regards Eduardo
  19. As promised: Distance between floor and roof = 119 cm Distance from the floor to the cushion (upper part) in the front = 84 cm from the cushion to the roof = 35 cm Distance from the floor to the cushion (upper part) in the rear = 89 cm from the cushion to the roof = 30 cm Regards,
  20. Tallest1 Also the anchor system is different in Exmor (as I see in the pictures) and that also can change the head room. The best way to disipate the doubts is to measure the distance in both cases from the floor to the seat and the cushion thickness. Let me check today and I can send you the measures in the new Defender. I think that you can ask Exmoor the same question and with that you can decide the best solution. Regards, PD: Its a pitty that new Defenders were not available in USA
  21. Hi there! I use Garmin GPSMap 60CSx with a suction mount and with Topo database for my area. Also a IPAq PDA with a GPS receiver and GPS Tuner software loaded with a collection of Google Earth maps, that give me an aerial view of the terrain and the possibility to locate some points not showed by the Garmin database like forest roads, areas with plantations. Regards
  22. Tallest1 I have a 2007 110 Defender and the folding seat head room with the LR seats is a complicated point. the distance between the seat and the roof are limited due the folding system. In fact, sometimes I travelled in the back and the space between the roof and my head is just 1 -2 cm (1/2"). Considering that I'm not quite tall: 1.75 m (5.7 ft) the distance with the roof could be a problem for a tall person. I dont know the experience with Exmoor. regards
  23. That's very funny I bought my Puma 110 SW just because reasons given in the article As a family of 6 with two big childrens, I was looking for a Diesel 4X4 with at least 6 confortable seats that can be used for my wife work (forester) and carry all the family in vacations. I check almost all the vehicles in the market from Koreans to North Americans but all have the same problem: the 3rd row were a toy and not suitable for long trips in special thinking in adults or adolescents (like my boys) and the only one 4x4 with a good 3rd row were not really a 4x4. The new Defender have a very good space between the 2nd and 3rd row that allows to sit an adult in the 3rd without to be a contorsionist and its a real 4x4. Maybe less fancy that others but who cares of that? Just one thing that is not accurate in the article: The new model (2007) have only 7 seats, but still is a good option compared to the minivans if you intend to go to rough roads like in our case. regards
  24. Just to follow up. I receive today a call from the dealer... The cause of the failure is unknow but probably due a fatigue due a contamination in a welding point during the door assembly. The door will be replaced under guarantee by a new one, but I must wait 2 weeks (they don't have doors in stock ) Regards,
