  1. i think i've a wee bit more than 6 mm. ive looked in the archive and can find the article about the rear bearing replacement but cant find the one on the front. Does the housing screw out much the same ? gary
  2. hi, while changing the uj on the front drive shaft, i noticed a fair amount of play up and down on the drive flange coming out the front of my tranfer box. i think the bearing may be done. my question is can the bearin be changed in place or is a transfer box out and strip down job. Ive a 1990 2.5 td and lt77 gearbox and 230 tranfer box.. all advice greatly appricated cheers Gary
  3. i did the bearings and seals in mine very easy job, the tin can is held on with the pipe inlets/ outlets and a large o ring.. it is just a matter of getting it off and the pump comes apart very easy.. just mark everything along one edge witha centr punch and place all the parts in order or removal. the seal kit from land rover is part no stc1633 but i cant remember the bearing no.. cheers Gary
  4. hi ive got a problem with my clutch.. when i press the pedal it dosent seem to be releasing the drive all the way.. ive changed the master cylinder and bleed the system. no leaks but the gears are still hard to get, anybody any sugestions? the clutch isnt slipping. cheers gary
  5. hi im currently making a secondary fuel tank for my 90 to increase my range between fill ups, the tanks is going to be mounted behind the rear member between the chassis legs. my question is should the fuel pickup be mounted from the top down in the middle of the tank or just weld a 1/4 npt fitting in the bottom of the tank.. all advice greatly appricated cheers Gary
  6. the clutch on my 1990 90 2.5 td feels strange, almost as if the pedal was not going in far enough, it still works and the fluid level in the master cylinder was just down a small amount, has anybody any ideas, is my master cylinder or slave on the way out. cheers Gary
  7. the tin can pump is easy to rebuild. and land rover even stock the seals and bearing for it.. mine was leaking badly , just got the seal kit from land rover, took it all apart noting what order it came in and replaced the seals no problem cheers Gary

  10. last year i bought a 2nd hand warn 8274, i was winching today and it seems down on power...wouldnt pull a 2 tonne cherrypicker on to the trailer.. Has anybody any suggestion what could be wrong.. cheers Gary
  11. hi, today i went to close the door on my 1990 90 and the door opened again. i checked it out and the latch in the actual lock was closeing but as soon as any pressure was applied it opened again. i took the door apart and removed the latch.. sprayed with oil and it seemed to be working just fine.. built the door up again and it worked 3 or 4 times but then stopped again. has any body any ideas or is a new latch the ouly answer. cheers Gary

Hello, I fancy making a set of rock sliders for my 90 and hava a few questions. what is the most common size used 80X40 box or what ? and what is the most common way of securing the pipe that slides in to the tube on the chassis. does the tube on the rock slider go over the chassis tube or through it? thanks in advance Gary
  16. thanks for all the in put. I have a well equiped workshop at home, lathe, milling machine, iron worker, welders etc and I like making thinks so I think Ill give it a bash. I cant galvanise myself, but my chassis isnt galvanised and I think the chassis will rot out before my new shock mounts.. again thanks for all the help cheers Gary
  17. Hello, my front shock mounts are getting near there sell by date, Im thinking of makeing some new ones, Im thinking 50x10 flat bar bent to shape and welded on to a 10mm ring at the bottom.. has anybody any photos of differnt front shock mounts i could look at before I start.. cheers Gary

  19. hello, i recently fitted a warn winch and heavy bumper to the front of my 90. I used range rover heavy duty springs and this levelled it up great, they are part number NRC4304 and are £9 from paddocks.. cheers Gary

  22. Hello, while changing the springs and shocks in the front of my 90 recently i noticed that the shock mounts were getting a bit scabby lookin' . Has anybody got a drawing or sketch of tubular shock mounts as i wouldnt mind making my own. Are the ones you buy made out of pipe or solid bar and what diameter are they. are the mounting holes in the bottom evenly spaced??? if anybody has any ideas please let me know. cheers Gary
  23. I fitted the rr h/d springs to the front of my 90. it seems to be sitting slightly high at the but only by a couple of mm. wit thr 8274 and heavy duty bumper fitted. realy please with the result... thanks for all the info.. cheers Gary
  24. I got mine from paddocks 9.90 each or near enough. havent fitted them yet due to having to go to work... cheers Gary
  25. Thanks for the help... I ordered r/r heavy duty ones from paddocks... I'll stick these in and drive it for a couple of days and see what its like. When eveything has settled i'll measure the distance between the bump stops and axles and maybe get busy with the lathe and make spacers the right size.. thanks again for the info.. cheers Gary.
