  1. Have done a search on this but couldnt find anything. The wiring for my trailer socket is completley wrong, as i discovered when i plugged it into a known trailer board. I am trying to establish whether the wires are standard from landrover or if the previous owner has conducted some poor DIY work. The wires i have going to the socket are: Black Red/Yellow Green/Red Green/Purple Red/Orange Green/White Red/Black Can anyone help?
  2. my old 306 used to do this when it wanted to I have read a few max power magazines in my time, and i think what your looking for is a turbo timer. This allows you to remove the key and keep the engine running for a predetermined time, used by people with huge turbos to cool the engine after a thrashing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbo_timer not sure what your insurance company would say
  3. never seen one, but someone else on here might of. Surely it would be a better idea to take the head off and check all valves etc?
  4. excellent, Many thanks to you both
  5. The rear diff leaks at the front, i.e where the propshaft goes into the diff housing. first of all where can i get a seal, and secondly how do i do it?
  6. we used to have a lightweight with the exhaust coming straight up through the wing, that looked pretty mean, and another one that was tucked just at the rear of the front arch
  7. My defender gives out a good blast of black smoke on start up, and i was wanting to check, and possibly adjust the injection timing. How is it done? I have done a search but couldnt find anything
  8. My 200tdi has a isolator switch mounted in the passenger footwell. A few weeks ago one of my mates knocked it, and turned it off whilst i was driving and i didnt even notice until i came to start it again. Fortunately this was during the daytime, obviously no lights etc. If it happened at night it could have been a different story.. I would advise you to mount it well out of the way, where it cannot be knocked or played with!
  9. thank you all how easy is it to remove the box itself? and i presume the you wrestle the old seal out with a screwdriver? to avoid weeping and crying i will try the replacing the seal before i do anything rash like buy a new box
  10. i see. Seems a shame to get a new one for the sake of a seal. The current system is a bit basic and jus involves carrying round a tub of oil everywhere i go
  11. could give that a go. where can i get a seal from?
  12. Along with several other leaks, my defender has developed a leak on the steering box through the bottom seal and i was wondering if this could be fixed, and if so, what does it involve?
  13. yeah i had thought about cable ties, they can fix everything else..
  14. excellent, cheers. for now i think i will go with the jubilee method, and possible treat it to some new bits at some point
  15. yeah, but its happened a few times. im looking for the cause or a more permanant solution
  16. This happend today when i was off roading, and also did it the other day. Its easy enough to jack up and pop back it. Checked the other side when that was jacked up and it wasnt so free to move. any ideas?
  17. When i start my 200tdi the oil light stays illuminated for a few seconds. I have checked the oil level and its sat right between N and H on the dipstick so could it be signs of low oil pressure or am i just worrying about nothing?
  18. i'm no expert myself, but have you checked the U-Js on the propshafts? clonking noises could also be the CV joint
