  1. Would it cause any problems if i where to run 225 75 16 tyres on the front axle and 235 70 16 tyres on the rear axle of my disco, unusual question perhaps but as i already have them it would save me buying new tyres
  2. Doubt it as they say its either the promotion or the trade card price or have with me in the past
  3. The front calipers on my disco have seen better days and could do with being replaced or rebuilt, paddocks supply new calipers for £129.95 the pair including vat, or if i rebuild them myself with all new stainless pistons and genuine seals it would cost me about £65, how easy is it to rebuild a caliper and is it worth doing rather than buying new
  4. Mine doesnt have one of those as its non airbag and no controls (other than the horn) are on the steering wheel, just the brass ring on the steering wheel and the contact on the column, anyway wheel swapped now easiest job i have done i used a bit of hi melting point multi purpose grease in the end, still a bit of noise from the brush/ring but we shall see what its like when on the road again
  5. Im talking about the contact ring on the wheel which is shroud side and makes the electrical connection between car and wheel, if its not lubricated it will cause a noise and annoy me (not to mention wearing away faster) this is what i want to lubricate
  6. Im about to replace the steering wheel on my disco and was wondering whether the grease used to lubricate the horn ring on the back of the wheel is anything special or just regular hi melting point grease? having used normal multi purpose grease in the past to have it leak out on a hot summers day i wont be making that mistake again

I will be replacing the fronts as sadly these too are wrong for the vehicle, if it where not for that i would probably just buy another pair of oe shocks for the rear but as i have to buy all 4 i may as well get something decent, anything that makes it handle better is a good thing as i like to drive quickly round bends

Rather than start a new topic im going to drag this one back up, front shocks where fitted, went to fit the rears today and then realised that the new genuine shocks i was supplied where for pre 1994 vehicles, so looks as though im going to have to buy some shocks anyway, for a mainly road biased vehicle what are the recommendations please, it does go off road most weekends but never anything too serious, rough bumpy tracks, green lanes etc so as long as its good on road and adequate off road i dont mind, any thoughts on bilstein gas shocks?
  10. One thing after another at the moment with the disco still off the road after fixing the last thing when literally just as i had finished putting it back together i spotted something else anyway it looks as though im going to have to replace the cv joints in the front axle, genuine joints would be lovely but not at £230 the pair, paddocks sell units for £58 the pair plus vat which i assume are britpart units and would like to try and avoid as its not a job i want to do again in a hurry, any suggestions on who make good quality cv joints and where i can buy them online? what are the bearmach joints like?
  11. Theres a guy on ebay selling the timken bearings, heres the link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=220359675413 only seems to have two left in the listing but sure if you ask he can sort you 4
  12. Could someone please tell me what the best way of cleaning the inside of the intercooler, inlet manifold and intercooler pipework is please and also the breather pipes that go onto the cyclone breather as i have a replacement cyclone breather and want to clean the pipes out whilst im at it, assume its to leave them soaking in something but what that wont do damage and is aggressive enough to remove the gunge
  13. Theres nuts there, 2 nylocs each side, strange thing is the shocks look original and dont look to have been off before
  14. Does anyone know the part number for the nut that goes with the bolt that holds the lower spring plate to the axle on a 1995 300 tdi as i cant seem to find the nut at all in the online catalogues or in the dealers microcat cheers guys
  15. Interesting as i was thinking about this the other day, ashtray who are the £25 paddocks lamps made by?
  16. Personally i dont think you would save much weight, if any, given that what you would be removing isnt that substantial or heavy, may even add weight depending on how you do it, i would imaging its probably easier to use a 3 door as your base as you could then keep the lower side panels in place as your tub rather than if you used a 5 door and cut the rear out from the b pillar back which would meen making a tub from scratch
  17. I will take some measurements in relation to the front axle and see what its like, having rebuilt the rear axle last summer with new stub axles, bearings, hubs, discs and pads (and all associated bits) i can happily say its not a bet stub axle, the osr wheel bearing failed (hence i rebuilt the axle) when i say failed i mean it would bind as you took off or stopped in traffic and made an unpleasant noise whilst on the go, this was about 2 weeks after i bought it but im just trying to think if the previous owner had been driving it with a bearing that was catching whether the tyre on the opposite end of the axle would wear, good call on the tyre possibly being on the front, now you mention it i think theres a good chance it could have been on the front in the past, btw local alignment place charged me £90 last time i went there granted there are very few places around here that like doing proper 4 wheel alignment and they did do a damn good job!
  18. Yes i do meen near side rear, geometry check would be expensive (i know from having cars done) is there nothing simple i can do myself as i dont see the point in paying to have a check if shortly i will be replacing bushes etc which will change all the readings anyway, note although the bushes are old none are truly shot that i can see, tyre is a goodyear wrangler all terrain, no idea how old as i have only had the vehicle for 9 months, tyres have not been rotated since i have had it, not noticed any other uneven tyre wear
  19. I have noticed that the nsr tyre has worn on the inside inch or so considerably more than the rest of the tyre, what could cause this? obviously want to sort this before i fit the new tyres
  20. I have my eye one some (to buy) but they are in wales so i want to courier them back, dimensions arent a problem but i have no idea what they weigh hence the question
  21. Does anyone know what freestyle alloy wheels weigh when fitted with tyres?
  22. Both carry the same part number (ERR5009) so looks like your in luck
  23. Going to have a rummage in the garage as i think i have some velcro fastening heat shield for lambda sensor cables that i could make use of for now, either that or cable tie the heat shield on, spoken to landrover who only list 1 heat shield so obviously one isnt available for this alternator, thanks for the help guys
  24. Alternator and belt fitted, charging at 14.2 volts, sound about right?
  25. The pulleys wont be the same diameter, measuring across the pulley (including the lip) the old pulley is 65mm ish and the new 52mm ish or did you mean the width of the pulley where the belt sits, forgive my ignorance but how would fitting an ERR5911 belt change the fact that the pulleys have a different diameter and of course as a result circumference funnily enough this alternator came provided with an ERR5911 belt but i wasnt going to fit it as its britpart , just twigged the belt provided will be smaller due to the smaller pulley but will still mean that the alternator is spinning at a different speed to the old one as a result of the pulley, so safe to just fit the alternator as is with the pulley then doh!
