As cool as can be Scirocco, I've got a Wilier I ride into London on, when I am working in London of course. I've never been out run by a fix wheel
-
I had mine bolted down for over 30k before I removed the engine
-
I've had my first bad Britpart recently, a 300tdi exhaust mid section with one hanger welded on the wrong way, and both of them out of square.
-
High tensile bolt, and more heat, to load the joint up, then give it a thwack with a hammer
-
awesome, thought I might have a new title thingy coming!

I've got to be honest I do feel like a real prat

*embarassed smiley* so I built up a little loom to check the integrity of the injector wires, listened to the one that was looking faulty, and no click, then checked it with it's powered pair and that to, was not opening. So I thought to check the power board one last time before tearing open the loom - low and behold buried under the bundle of power wires was one injector power cable that had worked it's way out of the clamp - refitted it and the tune of 8cyls was there - so hopefully that's the misfire cured! I have now run out of petrol so off to get some before compiling a new data log.
I have fitted some nice corks into the open ends where the PWM hoses were.

Useful stuff, cheers FF. I have found though that plug #8 is wet and not black like the rest pointing at a problem on that cylinder. I have swapped the plug lead for another new one, swapped spark plug and injector but no sign of any change. I will try testing the injector wires, but can't see that being the issue tbh.

Got the TPS working, turned the EGO down to 0% control and have disconnected the PWM valve, seems a lot better, plugs are not as fouled up. It also doesn't smell as rich. There are not any obvious air leaks around the plenum or air inlet.
It does hunt around a bit at idle still, and the Fidle in the bottom corner of megatune is flicking on and off - which I assume it shouldn't?
Any guidance on the next course of action?
I have datalogged the engine with the situation as above if it's any use as well.
-
I would suggest there is something wrong with your diesel....
-
I did calibrate the TPS, and it does run from 0% to 100% depending on where the old right boot is.
-
don't think I had enough fuel left to actually make it to 72degrees!
TPS I will swap
Resets worry me a bit, I'm guessing there could be a vast variety of reasons for them, and with no indication of where to start

MSQ is Nige's standard for 3.9 Serp
-
forgot the file though it appears I can't upload it, is there a format for this?
-
Right, I went back through some basics like trigger wheel, coil wiring and leaks etc - nothing untoward was found so fired it up and put on the logging feature in megatune, providing you helpful chaps with this lovely log file, the coolant rises nicely, but the rpm and MAT are a bit allover the place.
The coil I ordered from Mondeo parts arrived and turns out to be a more modern type with different fittings for the leads - so haven't be able to try that.
I have swapped the FP regulator as well, she doesn't seem any different.
-
is the intermittent electrical fault the immobiliser problem? Where the engine shuts off as though the ignition has been turned off.
Safe trip mate!
-
Thinking about this today I have remembered something else that I thought was a bit odd. On the bottom of Megatune with the engine running the F.Idle box flicks off and on and not all the green lights (circles things) appear to be on.....
-
I'm using lambdas supplied by Nige
The fuel pump is the standard 3.9 Disco one fitted into a 90 tank as per Nige's build.
The regulator is something I have a spare of and will try that as well.
-
Because they haven't made a good one since 1958
-
Poor Nige, I've hassled the bloke to the point where he should be telling me to do one.
I'll try your list Bowie, having ordered a coil pack. The timing gun has been on it and it looked fine firing at around 6* BTDC, but I will check again
-
Gents I am at a loss with this and don't know what is wrong with it. I will pay handsomely for someone to take a look if anyone is interested?
-
check your injection timing is absolutely cock on before even stripping.
-
So I changed back to Nige's settings and turned the EGO correction up to 70% control. It found a good idle and didn't hunt about as much. After another start the right hand cat was glowing hot, hinting at a missfire, all sparks are present though. I'm at a bit of loss as it doesn't miss and then sometimes it does.

Does anyone know the Euro rating of the engine?
