Retroanaconda
That's a shame things are looking poor for the long term in the south west. Would have thought replanting was compulsory - though it could be being planted with carp that will not yield any product of course. Up here Phytophthora has hit pretty hard, I was down in Galloway when it hit there and in the end about 4,000 hectares has been cut. Was a real challenge at first but the mills have adapted now and things are much better. Up on the west coast where I am now it continues to spread slowly - I have five new sites to deal with this year across Argyll and onto Mull. It's a real shame as the larch can be a nice tree, breaks up the Sitka spruce a little!
honitonhobbit
Mind the Sitka, lodgepole, grand and a few others are all starting to get it as it crosses species They stopped re-planting a while back - happier to let it develop successionally. So we get birch, gorse, scots pine, elm, bramble, more bramble...
