mcc1979ian
Ok so I've fitted a 4 bolt power steering box to my 1985 90 but where the tie bar goes through the arm on the chassis the diameters are completely different. Does anyone know if there should be a bush or is there an alternate tie bar that I need?

Retroanaconda
Nope, no bushes. The hole in the arm is massive and the threaded bit of the tie bar very small. No idea why, but every one I've seen has been like it so I believe it is standard.
mcc1979ian
Ok cheers, just seems strange for there to be such a difference in sizes
simonb
Yes massive hole, just refitted my steering box as part of a chassis swap. I think its to allow for "production tolerances" in the spacing of the 4 holes in the chassis which bolt up the steering box, and the holes for the big cast bracket that bolts to the other side of the chassis and to which part 9 fits into - and that in turn has adjustment at the steering box end. When I refitted mine, part 9 was still attached to the cast bracket, but then I couldn't get all of the 4 chassis bolts on the steering box to line up. I had to separate all the parts, bolt the box to the chassis, then the bracket and then do the nut up on number 9 last.
