liams105e
Hi, I've got a 1994, 5 door disco. Two of the door locks (not boot door) are not holding themselves in the open position correctly when I open the car (with the key, as the remote fob hasn't worked since i bought the car) the bit that rises above the door card, only needs to drop down by 1 or 2 mm, which it often does by its self, and you then can't open the door from out side without putting your had round to lift it back up. I assume a component has gone within the assembly? I've changed the spring on the back door mechanism on a previous disco, is it the same component on the passenger doors? or something else that would cause this fault? Thanks in advance for any help given!
BogMonster
Sticky locks are certainly very common on older vehicles. I'm not sure if there is a cure apart from a new one, but I am sure somebody will be along presently if there is.
Snagger
The symptoms do sound very much like the overcentre spring on the latching mechanism has broken. You said you’d fixed the same problem on a D1 - it is quite a common problem on those and the RRC (same locks), and now that D2s are ripening, I suspect it’ll become a common issue on them too.
