Ivan
Just bought a Racetech boost gauge to fit to my 300Tdi. Trouble is the T piece that came with the fitting kit seems too small. I haven't cut the pipe from the Turbo to the fuel pump as I felt sure that the T piece would not fit. Anyone else fitted one of these ? Any clues ? TIA Ivan
Tonk
should be able to get all the fittings u need from hyp hose
Ivan
Thanks for the quick reply Tonk. Before I cut the hose any idea what the internal diameter of the pipe is ? Ivan
Tonk
which pipe are u teeing into? the actuator tube? if so should be 4mm IIRC. i've now taken my boost guage from the inlet side, ie after the intercooler, all done with 1/8 bsp fittings, these should thread straight into your turbo aswell
Ivan
Tonk Yes I think it's the actuator pipe (not sure about this diesel stuff). It's the pipe that runs from the Turbo to the injector pump (I assume it uses the boost to adjust the fuelling). If I go your route I assume you drill and tap a fitting into the inlet manifold ? And then run a pipe from there to the gauge ? Ivan
Tonk
basically yes, i have unstandard turbo pipes but anywhere after the intercooler and before it goes into the engine is fine, just means u're reading wots going into the engine rather than out of the turbo
Ivan
Tonk Do you have a contact number for hyp hose ? I did a quick google but can't find them. Thnx Ivan
white90
I tapped a hole in the bolt that is fitted in the end of the inlet manifold(plenum chamber) the bulkhead end there's a bolt you can remove easily tap and replace, then your boost gauge reads the pressure after the intercooler/pipework etc.

reedx
On a 300Tdi put the t-piece on the short pipe from turbo to actuator as per the following picture from the LR 300Tdi manual
Ivan
Thanks for all the help guys. Hopefully it should be sorted this week. Ivan
imspanners
If you're bypassing or have bypassed the EGR valve, you could drill and tap the EGR blanking plate.... Voila: No1 is the EGR valve, no's 2 are the blanking plates. The front one has the boost gauge pipe installed...
Turbocharger
So, does my 300Tdi omit that blanking plate because it's an early one? As an aside, how do I undo the bolts which hold (1) onto the exhaust manifold? They're allen head and 'kin tight. Will WD40 help or should I get it steaming hot with a good run down the road? imspanners
I couldn't get the allen bolts undone either, hence why it's still in place with a blanking plate at either end. That way it's also possible to put back together in the event of sale.... I take it yours hasn't got the front bolted joint?? You could try picking up a 2nd hand disco intercooler pipe (the bit that connects to the EGR).
Turbocharger
No, don't tell me that! I've got to get it out so I can mount an EGT probe in there instead. TroddenMasses suggests 'shocking' it instead (mechanically, not by doing something unprecedented like heading offroad) but access isn't too easy. Has anyone taken the EGR diaphragm apart before? imspanners
You could try , a cold engine, then heat the manifold up around the bolts with a hot air gun or gas soldering iron? Then give the heads of the allen bolts a sharp tap with a hammer and punch. This type of soldering gun:
