cackshifter
Use 1 coat Jotun Jotamastic 87 2 pack epoxy primer (ideally in aluminium finish), 1 coat Jotun Hardtop XP 2 pack polyurethane topcoat. It's supposed to last 15 years in a marine environment which lets face it is what the rear crossmember lives in. The primer is tolerant of preparation standards. It's messy to mix and put on, but 2 years later I can jet wash it and it looks like new. Their Penguard primer sticks well to galv too. I think a very similar primer is available as Jotamastic smart pack but in smaller quantities. You need more paint than normal as it needs quite a film thickness. Marine paint seems miles better than the stuff commonly sold for cars or domestic use.
CwazyWabbit
Is a 7 year old thread ressurection a record? My guess is the TD5 cross member has rotted off by now
offshore1987
We use to use navy steal on the tugs, that stuff is awesome, but its uber dear £££££££ If it stops salt water rusting a metal tug, should work rather well on a landy Dan
