rejo
Hi , just bought a 300tdi and have noticed that the temp gauge runs at half way between hot and cold but when I turn on the blower, headlamps or hazards the temp goes up, turn off the blower, heater or hazards and the temp goes back to normal. Obviously there's an electrical problem somewhere, it looks like the temp gauge or wire to the sender is earthing out somewhere ......maybe. Not had time to check it out yet but has anyone got any hints where to look first. Also sometimes when I turn the lights on the radio turns off and then on again, this is not every time only sometimes. Thanks Jo
BogMonster
Earth fault somewhere - have fun! It will probably not be wherever you start looking.
TheRecklessEngineer
Always the last connection you check.... An easy fix would be to simply fit a new earth for the gauge - if you tie it into the existing wiring as well, you also beef up anything else that might be using the same earth - like the hazards and blower. steve_a
Had the same thing on the defender, run some manual earths to the engine block and body to just check that everything is earthed. My defender was earthing through the handbrake cable...
