Spotted this on my way home from work in Uxbridge last night.

Only a few weeks after work started on the long awaited Hindhead tunnel, the ground clearing crew have had a serious accident.

The photograph shows a tractor unit used for moving the felled trees, and it is a hefty piece of machinery.

I can only presume that nothing will happen to the unit until the Health and Safety Executive have carried out a full investigation.

The unit is lying very close to the A3, I presume that the road will have to be closed when the recovery starts to take place - any volunteers?

Not a good start for contractors Balfor Beatty who have only been on site for a few weeks.

ooops, mind you i did that with one of them when i was a student - not a problem hooked up the forestry winch pulled it back up, let the oil settle and restarted. no worries. That was in the middle of a plantation though so noone saw it other than the lecturers - they were quite impressed it went over B) Usually they have a 360 articulation point so if the trailer goes over the cab stays upright but someone had locked mine so it all went.

Umm, just read this again, as Balfour's are my employers parent company, no doubt we will have large numbers of directorates about how to drive forestry machines...............like they are common on building sites.
