Stewart
Hi, how much of a differnce does it make in fitting RR diffs in a series 3. Is it possible to make the speedo read properly? Thanks Stewart

rtbarton
Hi, how much of a differnce does it make in fitting RR diffs in a series 3. Is it possible to make the speedo read properly? Thanks Stewart Your actual speed will be 4.7/3.54 greater than the indicated speed. The odometer will read low by the same ratio. Torque at the wheels will be reduced by the same ratio, so less acceleration and more stress on the transmission.
bill van snorkle
The difference is around 33% I think. Far too much for standard engines IMO. And if you have a powerfull enough engine then the combination of engine and diff ratio will prove too much for the series gearbox to cope with if you expect any degree of reliability. Bill. Bomag
Ive fitted them to my s2, with a s3 gearbox and SD1 3.5 V8, Ive got to say its much more drivable with the torque in the right place (it appeared to overrev with little movement with series diffs) I used a s3 heavy duty clutch and diesel mounts, but thats as far as Ive needed to go at the moment.
