PATAGONIA
The engine on my Defender 300 tdi is dead. So the BIG question is replace or repair. There are rumuors that a 2.8 lt powerstroke engine is an option Please anybody with info.
headhunter
My 110 300tdi has been replaced with an International 2.8TGV engine made in Brazil and or Argentina. (Possibly "local" to you). The 2.8 TGV is a development of the 300tdi. It is a fairly straight forward engine replacement that can be ordered with a Defender kit as some of the pipework runs are different. Gromit
International 2.8TGV engine made in Brazil and or Argentina. You know, I though I heard someone mention that it was out of production already? Anyone know for sure?
Guest WALFY
I'd heard that as well. Something to do with the licence or was it that the 300TDI was being made again to suit some foreign market where emissions aren't a problem. Bit of a short build life if it is the case. But I'm sure spare parts will be avail for sometime yet
FridgeFreezer
If you're looking at the TGV, be aware: 1) Many of the parts are not the same as Land Rover 2) It's really expensive to buy, there are many other options for that kind of money or a lot less. 3) It will break everything in your drivetrain, bit-by-bit. You can follow Dave's experiences with the 2.8 here: Installation Driving experience Gearbox destruction... and clutch Will Warne has had similar problems (when his truck works) with breakages.
