Speaker in Back door

Hi,

Just got my non runner 1996 Discovery delivered ( bargain on ebay...or so I think so far) but there is no radio in it and the battery is flat so couldnt test. Not owned or driven one before but looking round there seems to be a speaker in the back door. There are speakers in the front door and rear pillars so would the back door be a bass speaker and do i need a radio to suit? I have a flip up screen radio dvd player to fit in it ( for my daughter you understand) which drives a rear headrest screen but not sure if this has a bass output. Anyway, any info on the standard radio system and Back door speaker would be appreciated.

I have bought a good Serpentine engine as apparently the engine does not turn over. I found wrapped up in the glove box a section of camshaft about 3 inches long so have no idea if this has been rectified as the engine is in 1 piece and the gentre gasket looks new. Common problem???

no, any stereo will suffice. just double check but your car should have ISO connections and the radio should have similar. the door speaker(S) provide low end reinforcement yes, but dont worry it's already wired in and taken off the rest of the speaker harness' with low pass filters already on. no sub output required, but almost all current market radios have them anyway.

you may be interested to know another little addition you can make if you dont already have them, is buy the A-pillar covers with built in tweeters. i'll dig out the part number for you a bit later unless someone beats me to it. the wiring will probably already be in the pillars for them (was last time i did one), so it's literally plug and play.

hopefully that helped. need any help just shout. this was my job up until recently when i got fed up of doing it day in day out

The sub in the back door has it's own amp, and is driven off two separate wires on another plug next to the ISO plug. I cut this off and wired two phono plugs on to them and connected them to the head units pre-out sockets. This gives a nice base from the back, nothing excellent but then again they are 12 year old factory speakers.

If you don't connect those wires up the back door speaker will do nothing
