TheBeastie
I have been doing a fair bit of re-wiring to The Beastie. The new stuff I am putting in is all thinwall copper wire. When I am making a connection to the old wiring, or removing old wiring I have noticed that the strands of wire look more like slightly dirty steel than copper. Is this a corrosion effect within the old wiring? If so, would I be best working towards doing a complete re-wire job? It does stike me if I was doing this it would not be too hard since at the moment there are bu**er all electrics in the thing and loads of redundant cables for rear windscreen wipers, air conditioning etc etc so the actual wiring would be relatively simple (says he tempting fate!) Thanks for any thoughts. Best wishes Malcy
western
older wires go like that, so long as the connections are well made there won't be a problem, you really Don't want to rewire the complete vehicle, I did the dash/fusebox loom recently & really don't want to do it ever again, took a over a week to strip the dash out, remove the old loom & route & fit the new loom & rebuild the dash. Shox Dr
It's the capillary action of water ingress. I've found there is little point in "chasing" it back as you'll end up at the other end. Just make sure you clean the old wire to remove the oxide, as you'll end up with a poor connection
