Mean Green
My 1996 300tdi D1 needs the rear body mounts replaced. My local LR specialist reconned it was possible to get replacement bracets or sleeves that could be put on over the top of the old mounts. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? And where to get them?
Mark
You can get replacement brackets, but they involve cutting the old ones off first.... I have a couple at home, which came from MPS 4x4 via eBay. image blatantly stolen from this listing on eBlag:
Mean Green
Thanks Mark. I got the feeling he meant something that saved having to cut the old ones off and was more of a sleeve tahn replacement. Maybe I need to talk to him again. Damon
I researched this a while ago, and came up with http://www.yrm-metal-solutions.com/page3.htm I think they are a bit cheaper than the above, and have a bit more metal to help fitting in place. I haven't seen any that fit over the top of the existing. Damon
Les Henson
Putting a new part on top of an old one in order to affect a repair is not a good idea I reckon. Even if the new part is designed for it - I would would still remove the old. Replacing those body supports is not quite as simple as it seems - getting the nut/bolt/spacer tube, and rubbers out is fun and games. Orange
To add to Les's point about just sleeving over the old, the chances are that if the mounts are rotten, there won't be much left in the crossmember to weld to anyway...

Les Henson
You can fit the new one over the old and no doubt it'll be fine for a few years, but the metal will be bare right from the start and the presence of the old mount will prevent you from being able to paint/waxoyl over it, so it's going to start rusting from day one. Cutting the old one off will only involve a bit more work and will make it by far a better finished job. You'll appreciate it in a few years time when it's still in good condition. Les.
