daioffshore
Hello all, just wondering if anyone knows where i can get some custom turrets with with an eye mount instead of the pin mount.I have an 02 def csw swb that needs sorting out, collapsed suspension Again. This is my first defender of my own but have driven them over the last 20 years and only owned 4x4s in 20 years. Always been a toyota man, still have one but as i only supply labour now i can get my kit in the wagon.I am a self-employed carpenter from the south wales valleys (Afan forest park) and contract out to flood prevention and coastal sea defence for my local environment agency i could not own a car if i wanted to thus only owned 4x4s.Anyway,had the land rover now 2 yrs and it needs doing, fuel pressure reg valve, discs all round, clutch, spings ,dampers, head gasket,ALL bushes, some seals it had 19000 on the clock when i had it and has 53000 now.Past experience had taught me ALL dampers that are under 400 pound or chuck away are in essence carp (for the way i drive). So i`m going to take advantage of the u.s dollar and get some real shocks for a fair price either fox or king.As you obviously know all PROPER 4x4 shocks only have eyes on the ends of rods so i need to change shock mounts from pin to eye,the rear bottom and front bottom i can get equipe ones for 82 quid from LRS but they want 270 quid for the equipe ones with the eye mount. So after blabbering on, back to my original question (anyone know where to get custom turrets for a fair price). My first post so sorry to go on a bit, looks like the best set up and practical site on the net.If was an american i`d say something like SICK INSANE AWSOME BITCHIN RAD or somthing like that. Guest diesel_jim
Try Glyn Lewis, see if he makes ones like that. i had some a while back, can't remember where they came from, but they had the pin fixing at the top. don't see what the fascination is with them though, still each to their own. LR90
Well having now converted all my shocks to pin/pin my views might differ from yours but each to their own. TBH given you are already getting the shocks from over the water you might do as well to also bring in the custom turrets to match. Places I'd look first would be the likes of Safari Gard. daioffshore
Thanks for the info LR90,just looked the site up,some good kit,but after speaking to paul 'really helpfull' at tomcat this afternoon for nearly half an hour i`m going to try fuchs 'Dakar' dampers or if funds allow and i can try to do a deal with milners for my first chioce of the 'varidamps' which i can balance up with my custom wound progressive springs and both are direct replacements so no lower mounts or turrets messing about.I am quite curious why you changed to pin from the rose joint i would have thought that the rose would have given less strain on the joint. Will let you know how i get on. Kev Baldwin
FYI: If you're looking for a deal, King's are available in the UK from http://www.kingoffroad.co.uk/ although they do seem to have a reputation for being difficult people to get hold of. FWIW. I've always been lead to believe that King's were a superior shock (better construction) to Fox. Not had any first hand experience of using either myself, only what I've heard from people on both sides of the Atlantic.

I think we are trying to achieve very different things. For me flex was the goal (on a budget) and using pin/eye converters with stock mounts reduces the space for the shocks, result => shorter shocks and less travel. Totally agree LR90,i have visited your excellent site and see your into your challenge vehicles, where as i on the other hand want a wagon that handles well at speed on the rough stuff and ledges, and the only reason i was going to change my shock mounts was to accept good quality dampers. But as you say this would reslult in shorter dampers with less travel which i no good to me or anybody, plus the fact you can`t even get quality dampers that short (unless hand built). So i`m leaning towards the varidamp (stock size just change front turrets to tublar to provide opening for the remote res),i know this is a lot of money for dampers but the wagons a keeper and used daily offroad and i feel for what i use the wagon for any upgrade has got to put the suspention and underbody protection top of the list followed by bucket seats and a millitary clutch.Would love to know if anyone is using the varidamps and what they think of them. Now let`s get cracking on with this fuel press reg valve (valve + h/gasket kit with my discount 161.13 genuine parts from bearmach). Jurriaan
They told me Disco 2 top front shock mounts should have mountings for eye instead of pin. Might be an option instead of custom stuff? Will be using them also to mount my Koni Heavy Track Raids.
