Recommended Posts

Hi Guy's i'm having to get another alternator today  when i phoned the part's supplier they have given me two options a 55amp and a 65amp, now my landy is a bulk standard 200tdi 110 defender on a K plate i think 1993 so which one would i need or does it not matter and its worth going for the 65amp?? thank you in advance.

I dont actually know waht ampage mine is but if I put all my lights on at once (main beam and 5 spots) and the electric fan the voltage at the battery drops to 12v and if I do a long run like that it drains be battery enough to not start after. If my alt was needing replaced now I would be looking for a 80, 90 or maybe even 100 amp one. Keep it future proof for any other electrics you may fit.

No problem upgrading, the only slight hassle could be the terminals on the back, it's worth checking if you've got a block full of spade connectors, or individual ring/post connectors, which will be on the 65A alternator.

If you've got the block of spades, it's worth upgrading the wire to the starter when you swap over.
