the DustRoom
I'm new to the forums so I'll start by saying hello! I have a 200TDi Defender 90 with an LT77 that's now refusing to stay in reverse gear; all forward 5 function perfectly but reverse is having none of it. If you put it in reverse and give it very very little gas and be careful with the clutch it will reverse a few metres before popping back out of gear. I was told by a friend that it could be the baulking ring - does this sound about right? I asked a local 4x4 specialist and they suggested swapping the box for a recon but that sounds a little drastic (and expensive) as all forward gears seem absolutely fine; can I just replace the baulking ring and if so how the hell would I do that - does the box (and engine) have to come out and what are my chances of success given I've no idea about this sort of thing? lrfarmer
first thing i'd check is the reverse light switch if there in to far you can't get it to stay in gear (mine was like it for so long it nackered the reverse gear i have to hold mine in to go back)

The weird thig is that if I try to hold it in reverse it grinds every time no matter how little gas I give it; if I put it in reverse and give it very little gas it does move
