Converting a discovery engine to a defender

Hey,

As some of you may know my engine recently failed dramatically and so I have sourced a discovery 200 tdi replacement. They are both 200 TDi's with the obvious difference that one is from a disco and one from a defender. I have searched but did not seem to find anything. I have both and so how easy/hard is it to convert the disco engine ino a defender engine- no bodging- and will any parts be needed that aren't currently on one or the other? What checks would be recommened before converting the engine to make sure that it isn't going to blow up within a week?

fairly easy, on the Good engine you want to fit ---- remove the complete timing case & fit the Defender version from your dead engine, do the same with the mountings & manifolds/turbocharger. possibly the backplate/flywheel but IIRC they are common to both models.

Would it be possible to keep/modify the existing turbo on the good engine as the existing one is not too good as it has a lot of play on the small fan thing.

nope the turbos are different. if you keep the disco turbo you'll have to fit the disco tdi just like any other disco tdi.

the usual oils/timing belt/injectors/glowplugs are all new or in good order & a reset of the valve gaps.
