IMPCO LPG Nightmares - Is there anybody out there..?

I have an Issue with the LPG system on my '86 EFi RRC,

The LPG system runs very rich, were talking 7mpg round town and 11-12 on a run (60mph cruise before you think I'm caning it!! ) and it stinks of not well burnt gas. (IGN system is recently serviced etc)

I have recently purchased the vehicle and I dont think the LPG system has been serviced for a while, Its an IMPCO Model E vapouriser what i think is an IMPCO 225 Carb type thing.

After looking everywhere I eventually found a rebuild kit for the Vapouriser. It comes with instructions on how to rebuild it but not how to set it up - it is totally different to the Italian type of systems and a different kettle of fish when it comes to setting it up, hence expertise or just advise is proving troublesome to locate.

This is why I'm resorting to Forum, I dont want to pester you lot, but Im wondering If anyone is familiar with this set-up or indeed has any kind of paperwork or instructions relating to this LPG system and can guide me through getting this bugbear sorted, I'm otherwise at sea with this one!

Thanks Guys, Alec.

P.S I think I've managed to include picture of engine bay with system in, not the big doughnut thing located on air intake, that's what's peculiar to this set-up!

could you not just adjust the amount of gas, (a screw on the vaporiser I presume) maybe using a CO meter

I bought a diesel vehicle yesterday with LPG fitted, I have no idea how THAT works LOL .

Doesn't seem to be as simple as that, if you adjust one thing you bugger up another setting, then you adjust that one and the first buggers up even more, and you need to set it at certain rev/load conditions etc..!

Look simple enough TBH, an idle mixture screw, a fast running screw, and a power valve......

Only 3 settings and they all depend on eachother! :D

What I would do, is getting it running as well as you can, then to get it *right* take it to an LPG specialist, they will have it set up in 10 minutes, and probably just charge you a box of jaffa cakes to boot, mush less hassle than trying to work out how to set it all up without a CO meter handy :excl:

Thanks for your reply, I have been phoning around the LPG specialists but none of them seem to know anything about IMPCO systems. I got lucky on google just now and came across this.. IMPCO training manual - www.impco-beru.nl/IMPCO%20Training%20Manual.pdf Problem half solved, I will rebuild vapouriser and then take car along with these instructions to a garage with gas analyzer and have them blow themselves up. Cheers..!
