Tony Jones
I was thinking and flicking through my Land Rover 90/110 workshop manuals, as you do I thought, would it be possible to fit the lighter flywheel from a 2.5 Petrol into a 2.5Td or 200Tdi engine as part of a full engine rebuild and balance to get the engine to rev quicker and the turbo to therefore spool up quicker also? Or is this just an idiotic question?
BogMonster
It might be possible to fit it, but I don't think it would make much difference except the engine might stall more easily
western
don't think a petrol engines flywheel will be heavy enough for the diesel engine, as BM says it might stall easier & not be as driveable.
Tony Jones
Ah, so no real benefits at all then, no revving quicker and turbo spooling up quicker then? Just thought i'd ask and see if it was as daft as it sounds. It is for sure then!! Cheers anyhow.
roachy
i had a 2.25 petrol flywheel fitted to my 300tdi, it made no noticable difference. reason for fitting was the ring gear and starter gear are different between tdi and older engines.
