surfking
Hi I have recently noted that my 1998 110 v8 3.5 (250 000km) has started to rev without any increase in acceleration (and i don't use floor mats); invariably this happens when under a greater load - such as going uphill with a full load, although it does happen on the flat. Initially i put it down to issues with the clutch [sounds like a Granny driving through Exeter] but someone suggested it may be the Cam-belt.....? I would be grateful for any opinion. Peter (Cape Town, SA).
Les Henson
If engine speed increases but road speed doesn't, then it's down to the clutch or it's hydraulics. Les.
Milemarker Type S
Can only be clutch related... No idea how someone could suggest Cam belt as a cause???
disco_al
No idea how someone could suggest Cam belt as a cause??? ....especially as there is no cambelt on the 3.5..... definately clutch related if the engine speed goes up, but the road speed doesn't. the fact that it does it uphill with a full load on points to clutch slip too. FridgeFreezer
....especially as there is no cambelt on the 3.5..... Perhaps if you fitted one it would cure it? Peter - You might want to keep a mental note not to ask the same guy for advice on cars in future

Note, it was after his stag-party [hence the full car]....clearly he was befuddled...... Thank you for your responses. Pete
