gruntus
Chaps, Of the 200 TDi lump I am rebuilding the face of the fly wheel is a bit ropey where is was left out in the rain by the previous owner. The original 2.5TD lump I took out has a nice clean flywheel. Guessing by how similar the two engines are in terms of block etc can anyone tell me if the flywheels are the same and hence swap them over? Failing that I may need to get the 200TDi flywheel slightly skimmmed. I am guessing Ralph may be able to come to the rescue. Thanks in advance. disco_al
when we did a n/a to 200tdi conversiona few weeks ago, the flywheels were identical in appearance

Guest weeble
Probably just a different weight. If it looks the same, bolt it on
western
use the same clutch plate & cover & starter ring gear & the bolts that hold it to the crank are the same too according to my 110 1987 on paper parts book.
TheRecklessEngineer
Ill bet the TDi is heavier. Being DI i'd expect that the CR is higher, therefore greater mass flywheel. Probably would make sod all difference though.
FridaT
The 200TDI flywheel has an extra slot because the timing tool goes in in a different place. Ie you need the proper 200TDI flywheel to set the timing. If you need one, we have a good used one. gruntus
Thanks Frida, that really explains it. I gave the flywheel a clean up wiith a rotary wire brush last night and its no where near as bad as I thought. In fact its as good as the TD one and don't think I will need a replacement after all. Thanks for the offer on the flywheel, I would love to see what the postage costs would be to scotland! Cheers Grant
