Sound from TD5 Fuel Tank

Hi All,

When turning on the ignition I am getting a loud buzzing sound from the fuel tank, i pretty sure, even with the engine running you can hear it. It started the other day, then went and now has come back. Has anyone come across this before?

Any ideas or anything to worry about.

That'd be your fuel pump.

I wouldn't worry, but if you want to investigate, take up the carpet, undo the inspection hatch and remove pump from the top of the tank. Take care with the pipe connections.

...and budget for a new fuel pump soon. Usually when they get noisy is just before they get quiet, permanently.

yep sounds like the fuel pump is on its way out mate.

i dont have an hatch in my 110 so to inspect the pump i had to take down the fuel tank

. Take care with the pipe connections.

the noise is similar to the noise you get after replacing the fuel filter?

you might have air in the fuel hose

Best way is to cut a hole in the floor. See dimensions somewhere in the Tech Archive.
