Steve 90
Just been sizing up the best position to fit the rear brake limiting valve on my challenge truck. The original position is no good as the exhaust from the R/H bank now runs where it once was. So I will probably fit it towards the rear of the vehicle. Is the angle it is fitted at important??? I'm not sure what type of valve it is which doesn't help. Some are a simple pressure limiting valve, Others need to be fitted at a slight angle (some Ford escorts spring to mind) with the front higher than the rear as they have a sliding weight inside them that moves up a slope due to the deceleration forces and alters the amount of limiting on the rear brakes. The reason I ask is I noticed the Valve on the truck (A 1989 LR 90 by the way) was originally fitted at a slight angle. This could just be due to the position they had chosen but could also be needed to make it work correctly. So can anyone confirm 1, what type of valve it is? and 2, if it must be at this angle to work correctly or can I fit it any way I want? Thanks. Steve. western
If it looks like item C on this page from workshop manual, it's a 'G' valve & has to be fitted at a angle of 20 degrees, see diagram. File0062.pdf
bluespanner
So thats why the one on my 205 is at an angle!

Ruuman
out of interest, was this standard fitment on drum braked vehicles?, my 1990 200tdi 90 has been retro fitted with a td5 rear axle and locks from the rear far to easily, I'm not sure if i've spotted one when crawling around the vehicle? western
have a look on the top of the right chassis rail in the engine bay below the brake servo, just follow the brake pipes from the master cylinder.

Ruuman
haha, ok then smarty pants! for my next question, if I do have a limiting valve what the best way to stop the rear from locking up so much, change the angle or fit one of those manual adjust valves? like this http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p3343/WI...oduct_info.html
Steve 90
I use a disc axle on the rear of a drum brake vehicle using a drum brake limiting valve and its fine. Never get any trouble with the rears locking and the brakes work very well with little pedal pressure. Are you sure you problem is the rear brakes are not limited enough??? Could be under performing front brakes (dirty/rust discs, half sized callipers etc etc) that's the issue.
