The Badger
I have the shorter drop arm, one found on a disco, this does not use the Ball Joint at the end and is slightly shorter. Does anyone know where I might find destruction's to work out how it connect to the adjustable pan head rod I have? Im still learning... disco_al
all you should need is the drag link end for the rh side of the rod
The Badger
ok, should have one of those, do you have a of the set up?
The Badger
photo? pretty sure my drop arm is different as there is no space for the ball joint? It looks like the Ball joint bolt comes down into the hole? As opposed from the ball joint being inside the Drop arm?
Dave W
The drag link has a track rod end in it and, as you say, the track rod end goes up through the arm with the nut on the top of the arm. The drag link is longer than a standard Defender one.
disco_al
the ball joint goes up from underneath the drop arm, nut on top of arm. no pics sorry, only going from when we converted a defender to a disco drop arm.
The Badger
Great, two answers and they are both the same... Great, nice one, I see why the guys who supplied the box said this is better than the old style version. Where does the steering damper connect to then? Sorry more questions, as im now unsure where the steering damper connects? On the older versions you had that little link that connected to the drop arm / drag link and steering damper, where does the damper connect to now? thanks for the info. Dave W
Better late than never... You have a few options on the damper. 1) Don't bother with one, you don't need one anyway as they're only there to disguise problems elsewhere. 2) Get a clamp on bracket that goes onto the drag link. 3) mount one on the tracking bar behind the axle as per Discovery. I have chosen option 1 for since around 1993 and never had a problem.
The Badger
Ah, great, much appreciated as a picture is mush easier for dullars like myself...
The Badger
How's that twin shock set up like on the front?
Dave W
How's that twin shock set up like on the front? This might give you an idea how it works... If you're using relatively cheap and cheerful shock absorbers like me they make a huge difference reducing understeer dramatically and getting rid of the "dive" when you hit a hole/bump at speed. The rears are also double up to reduce the kangaroo effect you otherwise get on washboard sections.
