Prop shafts

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Basically looking for a TD5 front prop as half of mine went missing on the bypass....

post-10226-1236558716_thumb.jpg

Just want to know, which ones will fit correctly, and how much we talking?

Where should I buy one from as well?

Thanks

Grant

Front Prop - Part Number TVB100610 for the correct wide angle jobbie...

With a bit of forum discount...

Allmakes Own Brand - £65.57 + vat (which actually aren't bad at all!!)

Hardy Spicer - £102.30 + vat (OEM)

Genuine Part - £260 ish + vat

Postage would be £6.00

Could have one by Weds - and do your ECU at the same time ;)

looks like it did stretch, i never found the other piece, its somewhere probably in the central reservation of the A41 however a new tunnel and drivers side floor panel might not go a miss sometime now as well....

Thanks guys

mine on td5 defender is just about ready to fly apart, with about 1/2 inch of play in the back UJ of the front prop. The repair manuel says " to ensure correct assembly and reduce possibility of imbalance, before removing propeller shaft joint mark position of spider pin relative to journal yoke ears" .........this question of marking and stuff - is it less of a problem if you're fitting a whole prop?

'the correct wide angle jobby - is that for a lifted vehicle? - if not lifted, will 'ordinary' prop do, and is that cheaper?

All post 2002 Td5 Defenders were fitted with the wide angle prop - complete with later UJ's - Land Rover in there wisdom obviously saw a reason to do so (also helpful with regards to increased axle articulation).

FRC8386 is the none wide angle yoke (fitted as standard to all 300tdi and early Td5's) - they are £86.70 + vat for Hardy Spicer, or £66.46 for an Allmakes version. Both plus postage.

I can also get wide angle props for 200Tdi's.....

Easy way to check

If the t/case end front uni is bigger than the ones used in the rear driveshaft (prop) or the diff end of the front one, you have a wide angle one. If it's the same size as the rear uni's it obviously isn't a wide angle one.
