Defender56
I've been looking to get an uprated intercooler for my Td5 Defender, but can't decide which one to get. I'm guessing the greater the surface area/amount of rows, the better the cooling effect will be. All the manufacturers claim to have 'the best' intercooler. Anybody got opinions? Anybody got comparisons of the square feet for each cooler?
NicTheOrange90
Have you had the engine remapped yet ? Gary @ TD5Alive suggests on his website that this would give more bang for your money and the intercooler would be then a phase 2 (or get the whole lot done at the same time ...) Having had a remap my Defender drives much nicer !
Philip Tonkin
Many claim to be flow bench tested but I would love to see the figures. Something some of the mags lack is real technical comparison of products. Lets see flow rates, capacity, temperature differential and surface area info please. yorkshire90
Without a shadow of doubt, the intercooler sold by IRB developments are very well made and MASSIVE. http://www.irbdevelopments.com/ I previously owned an Allisport cooler however when I thought I was going to sell the 90 I sold all the performance bits. After, when I changed my mind I came across 'Porny' at IRB on the landrovernet.com forums. As everyone raves about his work on there I decided to order the Intercooler from him. Check out the pics: http://www.irbdevelopments.com/90_Kev_pg1.html Drop him an email or give him a bell for a good price, you wont be dissappointed. Philip Tonkin
I am having one fitted myself from IRB next week (road spec). It seems the best option on recommendations alone. yorkshire90, how does it compare to the Allisport one in size etc?
yorkshire90
Phil, The IRB cooler is bigger by a couple of inches. Told you it was massive. Also has a denser more efficent core to it. One thing that I noticed between the Allisport one is that I didn't need to drill any holes to fit, but I did have to space out the slam panel diagnols (the two bars that run down from the slam panel/bonnet latch to the chassis) It's fine though, you just need to space them forward slightly with supplied spacers. Does the IRB intercooler fit aircon models?
Philip Tonkin
Does the IRB intercooler fit aircon models? I am sure Ian does one for aircon cars. I have only had mine on for less than 24 hours but it's an absolutely amazing transformation.

Defender56
Now this is a intercooler........ Is that a Td5alive intercooler?
Philip Tonkin
Is that a Td5alive intercooler? Nope, it's the IRB Developments one. The TD5 Alive one is a little smaller (it fits Aircon and Non-Aircon cars) and doesn't have the same end tanks.
