geoffbeaumont
1992 RRC Anybody Know of a supply + how mutch? Thanks No idea where to get new ones (though I'd be surprised if you can't get them) - there's always the option of replacing the unit with one from a scrap car. The reason I'm asking is my motor has packed up after 180,000 miles stripped it, and it's just the brushes thats all, can get some made but they need a minimum production run if there is enough interest could be worth doing? DEANO3528
Hmm, how about making some? I did that several times with washing wachines - no don't laugh! - the brushes wore out so the cheapest solution was to cut some old dynamo brushes down to lengthen them. Alright, i'll get me coat! DEANO3528
Understood, but I'm only talking about cutting little blocks of carbon that sit on top of the originals, rather than replacing the whole caboodle..

Any other motor then yes,but once you'v had one of these fail on you, trust me adrenalin is brown!
DEANO3528
Brown adrenalin Yes fair enough, I had one with a faulty connector, that used to fail randomly. Surprising how long the reserve would last though before you got to a brown trouser moment!

Niall_CSK
I have never had one appart, more common is the windings burn out when the relay fails due to the motor not being continously rated, not very helpful I know. OK another source I have used in the past is the Black & Decker Service centre, they used to stock a lot of different brushes and didn't mind spending time getting me close enough to what I need to allow a small amount of filing to get them fitted, admittedly this was for wiper, heater & fuel pumps not something as mission critial as ABS. Have you looked at an RS catalogue or Maplins? Just thoughts I haven't looked myself.
