Hello to all.

First post... I haven't got the Disco yet but am hoping to collect on Sunday. 3.9 V8 converted to LPG. 1997 R reg.

Haven't paid any cash and want to know what I should be looking for and any issues I should know about.

Cheers

Welcome!!

You'll find this site the most useful resource for advice and "How To's" - see the Tech Archive.

If you really get in a pickle, you'll see the "Big Guns" such as the BogMonster, cipx2 and Les Henson ride to the rescue....

Meantime, you are planning to get exactly the same vehicle as I have, so when I get a chance later, I'll put up some issues I have had to deal with on mine...............

Good luck! :)

Rear floor is well-known for rotting away, so lift the carpet and take a look. If it's been glued down (a favourite trick with dealers), then walk away. Rear seat belt mount reinforcing plates (in the rear arch) also rot. Rear crossmember - especially along the bottom of the door line. Rear bumper end caps glued on 'cos they are a bit fragile. Body supports. Corrosion around the battery tray, inner wing where the curve of the inner arch meets the vertical section - particularly close to the bulkhead and under the header tank. Rear door can drop if the hinges wear and then scrape on the rear bumper - they can also rattle annoyingly when you drive. Damp carpet in either footwell. Leaking exhaust manifold (nightmare to work on the engine part of the exhaust/manifold) Any oil leaks, pitted swivel balls, clunk when taking up drive, clutch bite height (about 2-3 inches off the floor), brake pedal travel (about an inch of free play), braking in a straight line, vehicle stays in a staright line with 'hands off' the steering wheel. Frayed seat belts, belt catches, retract mechanism, loose seats, sloppy gearstick. Lights, horn, wash, wipe, engine leaks (look for lime or anti-freeze deposits where pipework connections are). Electrolytic corrosion on body panels (bottom of doors and quarter panels are favourite). Uneven tyre wear, line of site along the body sides.

Les.
