redben101
Hey, As part of a chassis up rebuild i split the engine from the gearbox today to give them a good clean, whilst cleaning the gearbox i noticed that the input shaft has play of a few millimetres on it which allows me to jiggle it just enough to make what sounds like the bearing slop in the box. Am i being overally sensitive or is there meant to be no lateral movement whatsoever? Thanks Ben
pat_pending
As the input shaft sits in a taper bearing and this will have a degree of end float, then yes, you will be able to feel some lateral movement. The spigot end will be held by the spigot bearing in the back of the crank when the box is back on. As to whether what you can feel is excessive, difficult to tell from here, was the box ok before? Probably worrying about nothing.
ciderman
Quite normal Ben , As long as its not excesive , does the bearing feel smooth when you rotate the input shaft .
