Reiny
Over the years, the hand brake lever's travel on my R380 has increased to the point that it is now going all the way up until the hand brake holds. How do I adjust it? I've tried to follow the manual without much success.
western
lift the cover between the front seats, on the drivers side, find the 2 locknuts on the cable outer sleeved threaded section, chock the wheels, release handbrake, tighten the transmission brake adjuster until it's tight, back off 2 clicks [1.5 turns], slacken the 2 locknuts, apply handbrake onto 3rd click of ratchet, adjust locknuts until transmission brake is locked, release handbrake & check transmission brake drum is free to turn, job done. bm52
erm.....have you checked the thickness on the shoes - if it is "years" they could be a bit thin by now!
Reiny
Thanks fellers. I'll check the shoe thickness but if memory serves correctly, I removed the drum about a year ago and there was plenty of life left in the shoes. i'll re-check. The shoes shouldn't really wear out. Unless, they're incorrectly adjusted, you use the handbrake to slow/stop the car (why?) or you get the drum filled with water/mud after deep wading.
