I recently put a disco 200tdi in a 86 ninty, I Dont have or want power steering on the ninty, but because i needed the power steering pump to run the alternater belt from i want to know " will running the pump without ps fluid cause the bearings to fail .? In a word..... yes! The pump bearings are lubricated by the PAS fluid, no fluid = no lubrication = no bearings. It should be possible to get a smaller belt if you take the pump off. HTH Mark. ronancounty Posted February 5, 2010 Author Share Posted February 5, 2010 The thing ,is the alternator is run from the pas pump on a seperate belt and is not alined with the water pump/crank pully ,and so i need the double pully to transfer drive to alternator.!
