axle oil seals

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Have started losing oil from the end of the front axle - but discs are clear and not contaminated. All the oil is coming out through the rubber end cap on the hub with none inside the wheel - does this sound like the stub axle oil seal. Not sure if oil is leaking from the swivel or through from the diff? Any help appreciated.

That's good..At least the flange splines are being lubricated.

As has been said. Cap off and clean, check for splits, any splits then renew the cap. Make sure that the hub face where the cup its is clean. A drop of EP90 in the cap before fitting helps the splines.

Now check the axle breathers just to make sure they aren't blocked.

This can also be a symptom of knackered splines on the shaft and / or drive member, leaving a space which acts as a pump.
