gripper
don't know what size without making any mods but trimming of the rear arch is such a simple job and it allows much bigger tyres, do a search for camel cut, i run 235/85 r16's as many others do which is a defender size meaning you won't get stuck in the ruts left behind by that size tyre. Fantic
I run 31 x 10.5 r15 BFG AT's on 8j rims and the only thing that catches is the rear where I should have done a camel cut. Even the steering locks were OK.
Ratty43
If you search for Disco Tire Fitting Guide you'll find one that gives details of all tyre sizes and any required modifications.

crispyme
I run 255/85/R16 Cooper discoverer STT (old style I think) Did a camel cut and trimmed the front bumper (which I then removed and replaced with a winch bumper). not had a problem other than gearing, which I altered to 4.1:1 Spare wheel fits on back door, nothing catches. Can't complain other than they're a bit skinny
