  1. Britpart seems to equal variable quality .. some good, some bad, hopefully you get lucky more often than not!!
  2. I run Britpart standard height HD springs, have done for about a year and had absolutely no issues with them. The Disco sits approximately 40mm higher than standard springs 'cos it doesn't sag as much. The front pair are longer than the rear pair, which have thicker wire coils .. Standard LR springs for mine were similar, longer at front, thicker at rear.
  3. Same way as a normal damper .. fullt extend and compress it a few times. First couple do it slowly, then a couple quickly then a couple slowly again.
  4. I've had ARB's since i got the Disco .. but we've nowgot anew car totow the caravan with, so the ARB's and other stuff are coming off to try to help off-road .. I'll comment over the next couple of weeks what benefits/demerits the removal of them gives, first hand.
  5. Take the centre console off and the rubber seal and check the bottom of the gear lever nylon bush and the bias plate and springs at the top of the gearbox, you might be lucky. Though continuing to run a gearbox knowing it's leaking, to the point where it's hard to get gears could easily have fecked the whole thing up.
  6. Dollops of mud acting as wheel weights? Stuck UJ's? buckled wheel? Tyres egg-shaped? Rusty wheel bearings? Broken CV's? Could be anything in the driveline, nackered diffs, halfshafts, splines ....
  7. Best things I did for more power were replacing the cat downpipe with a Defender non-cat downpipe and a straight through exhaust instead of the centre silencer. Also removed the egr valve, not so much for power but it runs much more smoothly, and a good clean up of the air pipes, intercooler and plenum chamber.
  8. I run 31 x 10.5 r15 BFG AT's on 8j rims and the only thing that catches is the rear where I should have done a camel cut. Even the steering locks were OK.
  9. Check the back (engine bay side) of the radiator. The fins can get blown out quite easily and it's unnoticeable from the front. Even just a few missing can cause some degree of overheating ...
  10. I believe the Gap road is still TRO'd until sometime in May ... dunno about Sarn Helen.

  12. That's about right for the rusty areas. Something I always check for as a gauge to how well it's been serviced, no matter what the paperwork looks like, is the state of the brake bleed nipples, as to whether they look corroded and/or mangled, especially the rears. If they do then it's a good bet that the calipers/piston seals might need a bit of work. It's also a pointer as to how thorough someone's been when looking after the rest of the vehicle.

I have this one too .. works on PDA, Laptop, phone, indeed anything with Bluetooth .. mine starts quickly enough .. the area we live in doesn't 'see' satellites easily at all, we have to drive out of the village before anything works well, but this one even works in the house on the desktop (sadly, I tried it)
  14. I used to run mine with a mag mount .. until the day it was pushed off and swung round again on the cable and broke the side window! I also got fed up with stopping to take it off under trees and put it back up again when out of them ... On a weekend to Wales I reckon I moved and replaced it maybe 20 times. A 4' long piano wire is a biatch to move about inside a Disco .. Following pic is me coming down Stanage Edge, but clearly shows the mag mount, cable just out the top of the door .. fine in the open but a bit scary and wearisome on treelined lanes .. Worse than opening gates in my view .. hence why I changed it ..

Same here, I thought it would be easier to get to the quarter panel (I doubt that now) but also, in my case, the base of the aerial was too long to mount on the roof panel without it sticking up and potentially catching when laning. Where it is now although the wire part, and it is just piano wire, catches trees and branches etc, it simply bends out of the way and is resilient enough to spring back ..
  16. Mine. Bought off ebay cheaply. The aerial bit unscrews easily enough if you want to leave it in town, say, and don't want someone pinching it .. or just Loctite it in ..
  17. I used a 100 amp alternator on mine, standard was, I think, 75 amp. Bought from Paddocks.

  20. Hurst Lane ... Going from Doncaster to Bawtry, A638 Great North Road and turn left at the lights for Robin Hood Airport. It's a couple of hundred yards down Hurst lane on the left. Large metal fence with gated entrance. Can't recall seeing any signs up yet, though there might be now as I haven't passed for a few weeks.
  21. Sounds like you need to remove 'other kit' to get to the problem ...
  22. I'd check wheelbearing play. Jack an axle up, undo the half shaft endcaps and see if there's any 'wobble' in the hubs. I say remove the endcaps because I had an issue in that a wheel bearing collapsed, but with the wheel on and endcap still tight there was no play at the wheel! ... Only when I undid the endcap did the hub drop revealing the problem, which I'm still working on as it only happened a couple of days ago and the half-shaft won't come out!

  25. It could be .. but it's a swap-out to check ... Cheap enough to replace and keep the cracked one in the spares box for when you (or a companion) break one while off-roading/green-laning.
